Limbaugh: gay marriage is going to happen.

I’ve seldom found myself hoping Rush Limbaugh is right, but I guess there’s a first time for everything.  Today he conceded that gay marriage is inevitable.

“This issue is lost,” he proclaimed. “I don’t care what the Supreme Court does, this is now inevitable. It’s inevitable because we lost the language on this.”

He’s wrong on the reason, of course.  It’s inevitable because our understanding of morality evolves and becomes more intelligent over time, usually bending toward liberty and equality.  That’s why it is inevitable.

And I hope it burns for Rush Limbaugh.

Lost the language? What does that even mean?

It means “We tried to reframe the issue as protecting traditional marriage but not even our side can keep a straight face when they say it”.

Lost the language? What does that even mean?

It means, yep all the non-sequiturs were just as dumb as we thought they were. So dumb that even a blind bat can see how dumb they were. Try using logic next time instead of malarkey all of you cave man people from the stone age. Oogey boogey!

Being a radical conservative means never having to admit when you’re wrong. Limbaugh can’t acknowledge being wrong, but he can line some words up in an order that resembles some type of argument, and his idiotic ditto heads (do they still call themselves that?) can nod and move on to defending the next horrible conservative idea. Like completely doing away with the capital gains tax.

I think it means that Rush doesn’t understand what kids are saying these days.

But I agree with you JT. Hopefully Rush is right on this one thing.

Also: “Inevitable because we lost the language” means “We can’t compete on the merits of argument, all we have is weasel words, misdirection, misrepresentation, and lies”.

The Republicans at CPAC concluded the same thing as Rush: it was not WHAT they were saying, it was HOW they were saying it. Until they get past that, they are doomed.

  • Josh B

It is worth pointing out that the majority of opponents on gay rights in general began with the conclusion that homosexuality is wrong as already being correct. They aren’t trying to debate whether gay marriage is right or wrong, good or bad – they were just trying to convince others that their initial point of view is correct. This is not a good way to uncover truth or have a moral discourse. Technically Rush is correct; they lost because their language didn’t convince anyone who is interested in more than rhetoric.

  • Glodson

His tone is telling. It is one of resignation. He doesn’t take joy form the fact that people will start enjoying equal protection under the law, at least in terms of marriage. He resigned to the fact that people will be granted equality.

Equality wrongfully denied. It doesn’t matter if Rush really believes this, or is just pandering. We can just add this statement to the mountain of evidence that Rush is a terrible person.

  • Mark

Romans 1:18-32 is clear that homosexuality is a form of judgement on a society for rejecting God as creator. That cannot just be legislated away. The only way to avert God’s judgement is to rely on Jesus to have taken your place under God’s wrath by dying on the cross. You don’t have to change to accept that gift! If you acknowledge that Jesus took the punishment for you, He will change you. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says that if anyone is in Christ, they become a new creation.

But if anything is “legislated away”, it is an act taken by the “governing authorities”.

      Romans 13:1-2

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

      (New King James Version)

So if gay marriage is permitted by the law of the land, you oppose it at the peril of bringing God’s judgement on yourself.

If you think an atheist quoting the Bible is silly, just think how silly it is quoting the Bible to an atheist. You aren’t convincing anyone, you’re just masturbating with Scripture.

When I read your Bible-laden posts, it comes across like this:

ROMANS 1:18-nurble IS nurble nurble HOMOSEXUALITY IS nurble FORM nurble JUDGEMENT nurble nurble SOCIETY nurble nurble GOD nurble CREATOR. nurble nurble nurble BE nurble nurble. nurble nurble nurble nurble nurble GOD’S JUDGEMENT IS nurble nurble nurble JESUS nurble HAVE nurble nurble PLACE nurble GOD’S WRATH nurble DYING nurble nurble CROSS. nurble DON’T HAVE nurble CHANGE nurble nurble nurble GIFT! nurble nurble nurble nurble JESUS nurble nurble PUNISHMENT nurble nurble, nurble WILL CHANGE nurble. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 SAYS nurble nurble nurble IS nurble CHRIST, nurble nurble nurble nurble CREATION.

    • tubi

What if I go ahead and don’t acknowledge that. And affirm that, although I’m pretty happy with who I am right now, any changes I need to make I can be responsible for. Will God still have to judge all of society for my exercising my free will?

If homosexuality is God’s “punishment” on humanity, that’s pretty weaksauce. I mean, God can do plagues, floods, giant pillars of fire, angels with fiery swords, genocidal enemies. Homosexual sex seems kinda … non-fatal in comparison. I’m a straight cisgender female. The idea that God might “punish” me by making me like boobs and vaginas more than penises is rather nonthreatening, really.

    • Glodson

That cannot just be legislated away.

Yes, it can. It is a ridiculous law based on religious ideology, which is not allowed by way of the Establishment Clause.

Funny how god wants to label a group of people who have no choice other than to be gay. Funny how they are considered to be rejecting god for being born a certain way. Funny how that works. Funny how you don’t find that morally reprehensible.

      • tubi

He’s not coming back, you know. Mark, that is. He did his duty by telling us what the Bible says and offering us the path to salvation. He can just check that off his list of weekly tasks and move on to hassling some slut at the PP. He doesn’t actually have to come back and defend what he said.

    • Loqi

Loqi 1:18-32 clearly says you’re an asshole for being an asshole to good people.
