David Silverman about to educate the state of New Jersey.

Just saw this on facebook:

My vanity “ATHEIST” license plate was just refused by the state. Reason: It’s offensive. #wronganswer

Like watching the playground bully pick a fight with the kid who is secretly a ninja or something.  Nobody likes to see a fight, but you mind this one a LOT less.  Congrats on picking about the worst person in the world to fuck with in this fashion.

The biggest challenge was finding the proper funny image to put on this post.  I thought about this:

You done goofed.

Or this:

Do you know who the fuck I am?

But ultimately went with a video.  Boom:

I would seriously attend church for a year to be a fly on the wall when the proper bureaucrats get the first “Maybe you don’t know who the fuck I am” letter…

    This one comes to mind:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEqniEvNcnk

if you’re able to picture Dave as the fat kid and Chris Christie as the skinny kid. (and yes, I of course realize that the governor is not involved in daily DMV bureaucracy, although maybe he will get pulled into this before all is said and done.)

    • SansDeus

That story of Casey Heynes broke my heart. Especially since he also got in trouble. I never found a follow up if he was left alone after that, but I would hope so.

Edit: Just found it in related videos.

That’s absurd that Casey got in trouble. I really despise any notion resembling “it doesn’t matter who started it” or “anyone fighting is getting punished”; who started it is massively important. If watching someone take a punch in the face for no reason before defending himself when the third punch comes doesn’t get people to rethink those ideas, I don’t know what would.

  • Jasper

    That’s one ambitious teacher-to-student ratio.

  • Jasper

    I squeed a little bit.

    Oh. My. FSM.

This is going to be good. Who wants popcorn?

    • Baby_Raptor

Me! Salt only, though. Can’t have that movie theatre butter…Allergic.

      • EvolutionKills

No kettle corn though, that stuff is an abomination!

        • baal

Apostate! I love corn nuts and kettle corn type stuff. Then again I don’t eat the movie theater stuff ans usually pop it myself in my wok with olive oil and then a bit of butter to finish.

      • http://gamesgirlsgods.blogspot.com/ Feminerd

What about real butter? I have an air-popper at home and even Orville Reddenbacker kernels to pop :)

  • LonesomeDove

Do they allow opposite other vanity plates of a religious nature like ‘JESUS’, XTIAN, etc.? Or do they refuse those on the same grounds…

    • Jasper

I’m looking at the embedded document about 40% down the page… I’m not seeing Jesus yet.

      http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2013/02/banned_license_plates_nj_list.html

    • Jasper

I’m trying to figure out why some of these are banned… like foo and foobar? What these people have against programming?

      • Andy Beals

“Foobar” can be said to be derived from “FUBAR”, which has a naughty word as its first letter.

        • unbound55

Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition? :-)

          • Len

            80% correct.

      • https://twitter.com/HungryHeathen Hungry Heathen

        Is binky on there?

    • iknklast

Oh, come on. Who could possibly be offended by “Jesus”? Only reality is offensive.

  • Michael Jacobsen

The state of NJ is going to get the Dave Silverman version of the Hitchslap. And it’s gonna sting!

  • http://www.illustratedbykarenjones.com/ Karen Jones

Though… Really… Getting ATHEIST as a license plate is a good way to get your car messed with in a parking lot. So, I wouldn’t think it was a good idea. But that’s really a decision that should be left to the license plate applicant.

    • Ellen Birch

We’ve never had a problem with our plate, just occasional dirty looks, but also lots of thimbs up. We’ve had the plate for over 10 years in Virginia.

      • Lurker111

May the FSM continue to watch over you. There are places in Va. where I’d rather go into a biker bar wearing a dress (I’m male) than put “ATHEIST” on my license plate. More power to you.

      • Celsus

        Good for you, Ellen.
My fears around having such a plate would be a) going to work and the reaction my employer and coworkers would have and b) getting pulled over by an Christian cop.

  • JasmynMoon

I have a friend in my state who has an ATHEIST plate. As far as I know, it’s yet to be vandalized in any way, and it is far more religious here than NJ. It seems odd that they would deny it. That friend saw another ATHEIST plate from a different state on the way to Reason Rally. I don’t remember the second state, but other states have allowed it.

    • Loqi

      Minnesota definitely has one.

    • Ellen Birch

We have ATHE1ST on our Virginia plate, only because a friend of ours in Richmond has ATHEIST. Also have ATHIST on our bike (they have only 6 letters). Had a little trouble with the ATHE1ST plate (in 2002), but Rick just talked to a manager. There are many of these plates in many states.

      • unbound55

Then again, Virginia DMV may not care as much. They still haven’t figured out LMFAO and LMFAO2 (guy in our community has those plates for a number of years now).

    • Malby

It’s because those who would be scandalized can’t read a word that complicated.

  • TGAP Dad

I immediately thought of AC/DC’s “Son of a Bitch.” As in “now you’re messing with a…”

    • Ted Thompson

      Er, Nazareth?

    • Didgya

      Isn’t that Nazareth?

  • baal

I’d hate to be on the wrong side of Alucard. Aside from the fact that you will lose, you’d also be a nazi/vampire/zombie/christian.

  • Baby_Raptor

I can’t wait to see how this plays out. We all know that there are plenty of Christers who will adamantly agree that happening to see proof of the oh-so-traumatizing fact that not everyone worships their god is indeed offensive, but I can’t imagine this will be legally upheld.

  • EvolutionKills

    I couldn’t resist…
