The Great Lakes Atheist Convention is winding down. There was definitely one big bump in the road, but I’m not sure if I’m willing to write about a single person being out of line. Instead, I’ll simply say that Barbara Williams and her organizing team really knocked this one out of the park. This convention is, I think, tied with the hugely successful Madison Freethought Festival and Skeptech conventions for being one of the best “first time” events out there. I really hope they do it again.
Here are some quick pictures before I go catch the morning’s talks before flying back to Michaelyn.
Incidentally, Rebecca Vitsmun’s son is a genius. He’s 1.5 and can say his abcs backwards (he also knows them front-ways). He is also beginning to be able to recognize words (such as “go”). Seriously, Vitsmun has done a great job putting atheism in the minds of people nationwide (with a single sentence, no less), but her greatest accomplishment thus far must be her command of motherhood.
Also, I finally got to meet David McAfee. He’s a real class act. Very kind, very down-to-earth. If you ever get the chance to meet him or to see him speak, do it.
