A few days ago I posted a video from an Islamic “peace” conference where a room full of people affirmed support for positively inhuman moral edicts on account of their faith. The speaker was offended, calling it racism, that people would suggest that these people represented only the minority of Muslims. Sam Harris’ response is so profound I’m going to post part of it here:
The serpent of obscurantism has finally begun to devour its own tail. Apparently, it is a sign of racism to imagine that only a tiny minority of Muslims could actually condone the subjugation of women and the murder of apostates. How dare you call us “extremists” when we represent so many? We are not extreme. This is Islam. They have a point. And it is time for secular liberals and (truly) moderate Muslims to stop denying it.
Nails, heads, and what not. To say that Islamic culture is saturated to an unacceptable and frightening degree, though completely true, would earn my the brand of Islamophobia from the likes of Chris Stedman and company. But to entire rooms of Muslims like this, it is racism to suggest otherwise.
You just can’t win being in the business of telling the damn truth.
