GODLESSNESS & PERSONAL: I have to brag.

I feel like a pretentious ass, but I have to share this.  J. Michael Spencer is starting up an Oasis in Boston (fuck yes!) and has written about how the project came to be.  I’m in there, along with my wife: Over time, I began to read less and less of PZ’s blog and more [Read More…]

MORNING HAPPINESS: Killing time at the airport.

I follow airlive.net on twitter because I’m incredibly fascinated with airplane disasters and they give live updates about when planes declare pan-pan-pan, mayday, emergency, etc. This morning, however, I was a bit shocked to see a tweet that read “VIDEO Stuck at San Francisco airport, a group of girls killing time by dancing “Flawless” choreography [Read More…]

GAY RIGHTS: Live, on-the-ground report on the damage from gay marriage in Alabama.

I’ve never heard of Jeremy Todd Addaway of Redneck News (but I dig his initials), but thank goodness he had the courage to wade out into Alabama, into the maelstrom following gay marriage coming to the entire state, to give the rest of us a look at the damage gay marriage is doing. God help us. [Read More…]

GAY RIGHTS & LAW: CNN’s Chris Cuomo takes Roy Moore to task.

This is one of the most beautiful interviews I’ve ever seen: Ooooooooh, he mad.  So mad. Moore’s lone tactic seems to be to imply that there are unjust laws.  He keeps asking Cuomo if he would’ve followed the decision in Dred Scott.  It seems like a simple answer: yes, and I would’ve acknowledged it as [Read More…]

BREAKING: Federal judge rules Alabama probate judges must issue same-sex marriage licenses.

The probate judge in Mobile County, Alabama, Don Davis, was sued for not giving a marriage license to a gay couple who wanted one on Monday.  The judge assigned to his hearing was Callie Granade, the federal judge who struck down Alabama’s gay marriage ban.  Awkward. Davis apparently didn’t show up, choosing to instead just [Read More…]

A = !A

We’ve all heard it a number of times, by now. “Atheism is a religion.” When we attempt to explain why this is not the case, the conversation goes something like this: [Read more…]

FAITH: Pope says not having children is selfish.

Pope Happy Rainbows is on a roll lately.  Now he’s saying it’s selfish to not have kids: Pope Francis has chided couples who choose not to have children , saying the decision was a “selfish” act. The statement, which he made in his general audience in St Peter’s Square, will be seen as especially controversial [Read More…]

POLITICS: Texas trying to pass law that would assign lawyers to fetuses.

If you’re unfamiliar with Alabama’s law that uses taxpayer money to assign a lawyer to fetuses that may get aborted, watch this Daily Show clip: And then be sad that Texas is trying to do the same thing: In the aftermath of a high-profile legal battle over a brain-dead woman who was kept on life support against [Read More…]

GAY RIGHTS: Roy Moore gets a shiny endorsement from the KKK.

Man, Roy Moore is having a hard time getting an endorsement from anybody these days, but one group is loving him: the Ku Klux Klan: A Mississippi chapter of the Ku Klux Klan is supporting Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore’s stand for state’s rights and called for members to protest against the legalization [Read More…]

MENTAL ILLNESS: Second session with Harold.

Today’s session was good.  I was in a really good place psychologically.  While I irrationally worry on days like today that my therapist will say, “Oh, JT’s in a good mood, he must be faking/cured,” I’m happy because I’m most lucid when I’m in a good place and always get the most out of sessions [Read More…]

Matt Dillahunty on the Chapel Hill murders.

As usual I can find no better wording than what Matt Dillahunty put on facebook: It’s certainly possible for an atheist to kill people because of their religion. It’s certainly possible that even in an ongoing parking dispute with neighbors, an individual’s hatred of the neighbors religion could contribute and amplify the response to the [Read More…]

GAY RIGHTS: Arkansas town cleverly sets the stage to fight anti-LGBT state law.

Ok, here’s another happy post.  Yesterday I wrote about how the Arkansas Senate passed a bill that would prohibit Arkansas town from passing nondiscrimination ordinances that protected LGBT people.  Boo, Arkansas. But in Arkansas there is one town which everybody knows is a holdout for the state’s LGBT population: Eureka Springs.  Last night, before the [Read More…]
