Mallorie Nasrallah needs some help.

Mallorie Nasrallah (the person who took this picture of me and these pictures of science), is dealing with a landlord who is being flagrantly dishonest and breaking the law.  She’s needing legal assistance in the Las Vegas area to protect her business (she’s a professional photographer).  Some readers do not like Mallorie, but having met [Read More...]

Catholic Parish raided by feds for…wait for it…downloading child porn.

The jokes write themselves. Federal and state authorities on Tuesday raided a Catholic parish in Independence, Missouri as part of an investigation into child pornography. A spokesperson for the Catholic Dioceses of Kansas City-St. Joseph said that investigators tracked down child porn downloads to an IP address used by an unsecured wireless network at the [Read More...]

Going to be on HuffPo Live talking about religion and childhood.

Got an offer to be on HuffPo Live this morning and thought it sounded fun.  I’ll be on there live at 1pm EDT.  You can find it then by following this link. Should be fun.  I imagine I’ll offend people.  Wheeeeeeee! Here’s another link I’ve been given to the HuffPo interview at 1pm EDT.  http://huff.lv/128c2XR [Read more...]

Bangladesh censorship: gotta stop militant atheists.

Bangladesh is increasing the breadth of its censorship of atheist bloggers.  This is pretty offensive to liberty, and so it’s pretty offensive to me.  But there was a line in the article that leaped out at me as particularly infuriating. The move comes after Islamic groups and clerics, who have staged a series of deadly [Read More...]

Why young people oppose equality (hint: religion).

Matt Stopera asked 20 young people at the nation for marriage rally to take a pad of paper and write down their reason for opposing same-sex marriage.  Look at all these Christians smile as they fight to keep others legally separated from the person they love.  Look at how happy they are to be causing [Read More...]

Matt Dillahunty’s AA13 talk.

American Atheists 2013 was freaking incredible.  I got to hang with old friends like Dan Fincke, Matt Dillahunty, Amanda Knief, and Greta Christina.  I also got to make some new friends.  The crowd had great energy and…parties.  Lots of them.  A++++ would speak again. Here’s Matt Dillahunty’s talk.  It was awesome. If tomorrow somebody demonstrates [Read More...]

Things believers say vs Things believers do, Part 2

DrB- Found on facebook:   First thing to know: Every image that has “Like and Share” just wants you to drive up their page “engagement” score. Second, think about what the message they wanted to convey here: 1. First, they setup a strawman, the anti-gun atheist. This strawman doesn’t want any guns or gods around! [Read More...]

Anybody else headed to Austin?

I can’t believe I didn’t ask this before, but are any of you going to be in Austin this weekend?  If so, leave a comment and maybe an email address.  Let’s meet up for a drink.  :) About to take off from Dallas.  Next stop: Austin! [Read more...]

Jon Stewart rips Scalia.

We’re about to take off, so this post will be quick.  Yesterday, surprise surprise, Antonin Scalia said something really stupid.  Jon Stewart took the opportunity to tear Scalia’s words to ribbons and hang him with them.  Enjoy. [Read more...]

On my way to Austin.

Just landed in OKC.  Sat next to a lovely atheist couple on the way here.  Next stop: Dallas, then Austin.  I’m just running over my talk for tonight.  It’s strange…my most popular talks have been the ones that came together in a day or two, and I’ve had some real bombs that I worked on [Read More...]

Tim Minchin: a popular and obscure song.

Tim Minchin has finally posted a video of his hit song “Thank You God”.  It will give you all the lulz. However, it’s not my favorite song Minchin has ever done.  Whenever Minchin gets brought up, I talk about my favorite song of his and nobody seems to know it.  Thankfully there’s a video of [Read More...]

Limbaugh: gay marriage is going to happen.

I’ve seldom found myself hoping Rush Limbaugh is right, but I guess there’s a first time for everything.  Today he conceded that gay marriage is inevitable. “This issue is lost,” he proclaimed. “I don’t care what the Supreme Court does, this is now inevitable. It’s inevitable because we lost the language on this.” He’s wrong [Read More...]
