Archbishop says divorced couples must live as “brother and sister”, since remarried Catholics don’t get communion.

The Archbishop who heads the Catholic Church in Philadelphia has made it clear that divorced people don’t get another crack at a fulfilling relationship if they still want to eat the Church’s crackers and drink its grape juice: The head of the Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia is closing the door opened by Pope Francis [Read More…]

MORNING HAPPINESS: When you can’t do life because everything distracts you.

Thanks to my mom for this: scratch scratch…flop My advice? I’ve only had half an eye on the news this morning (I made taco meat and rice…I’m a horrible cook), but don’t look at it today.  Close your eyes, watch some TV.  All the shootings in the last 24 hours will still be getting reported [Read More…]

A fun day at Ark Encounter’s “grand” opening.

It has been my absolute delight today to follow the tweetings of people at the Ark Encounter protest. For those who haven’t been following, Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis secured millions of dollars in taxpayer incentives to open their park all while claiming it was a tourist attraction, not an attempt at sectarian evangelizing [Read More…]

MORNING HAPPINESS: 10/10 on form.

Good morning, all!  For some additional morning happiness, many of my voice students are making spectacular progress this summer.  A few have looked back to songs they sang last year and wondered why they thought the songs were so hard.  This brings a tremendous amount of fulfillment to my life. Anyway, here’s the real morning [Read More…]

FBI Director James Comey makes a statement on the Hillary Clinton email scandal to people who only see the political value of such a statement.

Today the FBI released its findings on the Hillary email scandal.  It turns out that mistakes were made (the same ones made by her predecessors, none of whom were indicted or even slapped on the wrist, because it turns out everybody makes mistakes at their job), but to quote FBI Director James Comey (who, it [Read More…]

MORNING HAPPINESS: A festive time with the family.

Happy day after the 4th of July!  How are those hangovers? The wife, Dave, and I all took a trot down to Arkansas to spend four days with the family.  Good times ensued: Happy family.  We’ve all been asked “without god, what purpose is there to life?”  Well, there’s this: family, friends.  You don’t need [Read More…]

For two dollars you can support victims of the Orlando shooting and get some sweet music (please share).

Some of you may have heard of Zack Bresler.  If not, he was the Audio/Video Coordinator and Videography Team Lead for the Reason Rally.  He’s also quite a musician.  He’s spent the last two years as an instructor and the director of the Audio Engineering and Music Technology program a Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, [Read More…]

Kansas police department to remove biblical decals from its police cars thanks to the FFRF.

Hrm, the news looks pretty slow today.  However, here’s something cool.  Recently the police department in Harper, Kansas (because of course, Kansas) made some questionable additions to their police cars: The police department in Harper, Kan., had placed a decal on the back of patrol cars stating: “Romans 13:4.” The New Testament verse in question [Read More…]

MORNING HAPPINESS: Game of Thrones (spoilers).

In Pulp Fiction the character Jules has a line to the tune of, “My wife’s a vegetarian, which pretty much makes me a vegetarian.”  That describes my relationship to Game of Thrones.  My wife loves it, which pretty much means I’ve watched every episode (ok, the show’s pretty rad).  If you haven’t watched it, I [Read More…]

MORNING HAPPINESS: I’m still married.

So, two years ago I got hitched to this fine lady: Love is a feeling, sure, but it’s also a process.  The excitement and tingling you feel in a new relationship changes over time.  In time it becomes more comfortable, more calmly fulfilling.  You’re not screaming from the mountain tops that you’re in love, you’re [Read More…]
