Taking the day off.

It’s been a long week.  I’ve decided to spend the day with Michaelyn watching the LCS, cuddling, and relaxing. I will probably stream a bit later if you want to come say hi.  Catch you crazy kids on the flip side.  :P [Read more...]

Calvin and Hobbes creator’s words with aspiring comic’s art combine to talk about what is important in life.

I’ve always had the utmost respect for Bill Waterson (the man behind Calvin and Hobbes).  Once he had said all he wanted to say with Calvin and Hobbes, he walked away.  Rather than staying on to make money having to manufacture motivation and letting the cartoon get stale, he walked away. I admire him for [Read More...]

Headed to Philly soon!

The next place I’ll be showing up to give a talk will be in Philadelphia at the PA State Atheist/Humanist Conference.  It’s a group effort between The Freethought Society, Lancaster Freethought Society, PhillyCoR, and PA Nonbelievers that will run from September 13-15.  It’s got a pretty solid lineup of speakers like Seth Andrews, James Croft, [Read More...]

Rest assured, Steve Lonegan is a man.

The other day I wrote about Newark mayor and senate hopeful Cory Booker fighting homophobia as a political figure.  The Republican opposing Booker, Steve Lonegan, wants everybody to know that he is most certainly a man who likes man things. “It’s kind of weird. As a guy, I personally like being a guy,” Lonegan said. [Read More...]

Atheist running for mayor in Georgia.

Hey gang.  Need to finish up an editing project, so the posts today will be quick-hit news-type stuff. First, an open atheist is running for mayor in LaGrange, GA.  Part of the reason is so he can repeal laws that grant special privilege to religion. On Monday, August 26, 2013, Mike Smith, an open atheist, [Read More...]

That didn’t take long…

Two days ago I wrote about how the state of New Jersey refused American Atheists President David Silverman his ATHE1ST vanity license plate on the grounds that it was offensive.  Here you can see a copy of the rejection letter and Silverman’s appeal letter. I just received a press release from American Atheists with an [Read More...]

Hospital fighting to save a young girl’s life from her parents’ beliefs.

In Ohio there is an Amish couple with the misfortune of having their daughter stricken with cancer.  Initially the couple decided god wouldn’t help their child, but that perhaps mortal doctors could (that’s a bit of snark, they actually thought god would help their daughter but that doctors would make it more likely for god [Read More...]

Ken Ham: god’s judgment looks exactly like god’s non-judgment.

A sad thing happened at the creation museum recently (you might think “people attended”, and you’d be right, but that’s not what I’m talking about).  A lightning strike charged a piece of equipment and one of their employees touched it and got shocked.  Thankfully, his injuries were minor at most. But people asked the logical [Read More...]

True love.

Yesterday this conversation took place between me and Michaelyn: Michaelyn: Hey it’s our anniversary! Me: It is? Michaelyn: Yeah, Facebook just told me! We talked about how our relationship grew out of friendship.  Admittedly, there was kissy face before we became an official couple (on facebook and everything), so it’s kind of fuzzy when our [Read More...]

Gay marriage has come to New Mexico in the most awkward fashion.

So, it turns out that the marriage laws in New Mexico using gender-neutral terminology, which means that same-sex marriage is not technically illegal there.  So when six different LGBT couples were refused when applying for marriage licenses, they sued.  The decision came down on Monday: State District Judge Alan Malott on Monday ordered Bernalillo County [Read More...]

Pat Robertson crossed the line ages ago, now it’s just about gawking at how far he’ll go.

You know all those other videos of Pat Robertson saying insane things?  You know: the ones you weep after watching because you realize that hundreds of thousands of people (if not more) give credence to Robertson’s opinion?  Forget about them.  This one makes Robertson’s other comments look like Stephen Hawking’s best work on black holes.  [Read More...]

Drive-thru prayer service is now a thing.

Sometimes you just need a prayer.  Not just any old prayer like when you ask god to do something yourself.  No, sometimes you need someone else to ask god to do the thing you want, because that works better. And when you need someone else to ask god to alleviate some of the suffering he [Read More...]

I changed my mind: Wendy Davis could be elected.

A while back I said that while I’d love to see Wendy Davis sitting in the governor’s mansion after the next election cycle that I didn’t think she’d have a ghost of a chance in Texas.  Yesterday Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst echoed that sentiment: “It’s my hope, my friends, that about a year from now [Read More...]

Short day guys. Sorry.

Hey all.  I had to spend an hour on the phone with Uhaul this morning getting my money back for a charge they assessed me for storing an empty box I unloaded three weeks ago.  Then I was on the phone for an hour again and I’m behind on an editing project I need to [Read More...]
