Theocracy Reigns When Seculars Are Suppressed

At a time when one presidential candidate assures us that "We do what we do because God is with us" and the other says that "We are a nation 'under God' and in God, we do indeed trust," a reminder that it is indeed possible to stand up to religious pandering is welcome indeed. This struggle to overcome would-be theocrats continues unabated. And the evidence indicates that societies which support their secular core are in the best place to ensure that religious freedom can be peacefully exercised by all. Religious violence is often the result in places where one faith gets the upper hand, so allowing no religion to claim power is the best path for all.
