#OregonUnderAttack reveals the double standard of race and terrorism

#OregonUnderAttack reveals the double standard of race and terrorism January 3, 2016

What happens when 150 armed white men take over a federal building and claim they will get (more) violent? The media barely covers it and when they do, they call it a “peaceful protest.” Currently in Oregon, 150 armed men overtook the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, a US federal building. This group of taking over the building seem to have stemmed from a protest that was supporting Dwight and Steven Hammond, who were convicted of arson. Now Ammon Bundy, one of the leaders of this group (and son of Clive Bundy who is known for his anti-government views) says that “they will be here as long as it takes” and wants to restore “people’s constitutional rights.”

Okay, so a group of armed men with a political agenda takes over a federal building. How is this not terrorism? Why are we not calling the national guard like we did in Ferguson? Well, sadly, I think the answer is due to the skin color of the protesters. I’m definitely not the only person to realize this double standard as Twitter has been quite active with the hashtag #OregonUnderAttack. I’ll leave you with a few of the best Tweets:
