Mary Lou Bruner has a commanding lead to win a seat on the Texas Board of Education. She was just two points away from avoiding a run-off and that election will take place in May. Here are some of the things she had said:
“Obama has a soft spot for homosexuals because of the years he spent as a male prostitute in his twenties. That is how he paid for his drugs.”
“School shootings started after the schools started teaching evolution.”
“Just think about how much money the government has wasted educating the people about the government hoax which officials first called ‘Global Warming. Government later changed the term to ‘Climate Change’ because government lies or predictions did not come true, and the people were becoming very suspicious because the world wasn’t getting warmer.”“The dinosaurs on [Noah’s] ark may have been babies and not able to reproduce. It might make sense to take the small dinosaurs onto the ark instead of the ones bigger than a bus.”
You can’t make this stuff up. Most of these quotes were from Facebook posts (which she has deleted, but you can find with a quick Google search) and she has stood by her statements. It’s beyond depressing that a creationist and climate change denier is about to join the Texas Board of Education. Someone who holds such anti-science views should not be in a position to influence any sort of education system, but apparently that’s perfectly okay in Texas.
