Recent findings by The Pew Research Center have led scientists to conclude that Islam will eventually overtake Christianity as the world’s largest religion. The Pew Research Center’s 2010 study estimated that Muslims made up 23% of the world’s population and Christians made up 31%. By 2050 and beyond, Islam could start to take the global lead.
These findings are interesting to me because I wonder how they impact the persecution complex that some Christians have. Christians are still the overwhelming majority in the United States, but are constantly feeling like they are being oppressed when other groups gain equal rights. Now that we are slowly seeing other religions gain parity in the United States and around the world, will they feel even more threatened? Sadly, I do think many of them will, which will result in many years of religiously based conflict.
