Five Minute Friday: Gratitude

Five Minute Friday: Gratitude May 9, 2014

five-minute-fridayI have to get my picture taken for our church’s directory this afternoon, and realized the top I wanted to wear needed to be washed. It was looking pretty decent out, and I thought to myself, “I wonder where that rain is that everyone talked about last night at choir?” I should probably mention that I was naked. (Because, um, that’s maybe the sole advantage to living alone. Naked chores.)

Anyway, I’m down in the basement, starting things up, when I hear this pitter patter. No, it’s not the sound of tiny feet. By the time I scramble up the stairs to my second floor bedroom, it’s a thunderous din, and rain is coming in the open windows (because it was 71° last night at 4:00 a.m.). Remember, I’m naked.

So I’m shrieking while frantically trying to shut the old casement windows that simply Will.Not.Shut. Because shrieking is the best way NOT to draw attention to a naked lady shutting the windows, amiright? Water is pouring in. Horizontally. Because that’s how it always rains when you need to shut the windows. When you’re naked. And there are paperback books on the floor.

I did get the windows shut. And as I was mopping up the window sills and sponging off the book covers and patting the blankets dry, I remembered that today’s Five Minute Friday topic was GRATITUDE.

I am really thankful I was naked. Because now I don’t have to put on a different outfit. There’s some gratitude for you. Naked gratitude.

Yeah, it’s that day again. Five Minute Friday at Lisa-Jo Baker’s place. (General details here.) Where a hopefully more clothed bunch of folks have gathered to present their wild meanderings. Writers’ Anonymous, if you will. Flash mob style. Maybe naked. No one will ask.
