Fabled fleshpot Dubai is prosecuting a British woman for cheating on her husband. Yes, I mean that Dubai. Yeah, the one that uses prostitution to draw tourism. This sounds like something out of The Onion. Briton Sally Antia faces prison in Dubai on adultery charge – Times Online A British mother faces a year in prison after she admitted committing adultery in Dubai. A rabbi commited to Muslim-Jewish dialogue, Amy Eilberg, reflects insightfully on how MSM coverage of the increasingly bizarre New York bombing plot illustrates how Muslim denunciations of terror get ignored even when they’re loud and imminently newsworthy while terror controversies and lurid accusations automatically get front-page billing. Muslim Organizations Condemn Terror Plan: Is Anyone Listening? Before 7 A.M., I e-mailed Dr. Ingrid Mattson, the leader of the Islamic Society of North America, the nation’s largest organization of Muslims. I know... Read more

Just saw the J. J. Abrams  "Star Trek" film and I have to say that I have almost no complaints, which is a sign of its amazing success in meeting two seemingly mutually exclusive objectives. It retained a good bit of the the spirit of The Original Series (TOS), yet was still an exciting ride with with great action and superb special effects. I have to admit that it's a bit weird to find no "cheese", a Star Trek film... Read more

Imam Zaid Shakir has an insightful piece in the current issue of the progressive Jewish magazine Tikkun refuting the Islamophobic hysteria and tendentious historical revisionism of "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West", the 2005 pseudo-documentary that was widely distributed in America last year by shadowy neocon and hardline Jewish groups in an obvious attempt to stir up anti-Muslim prejudices and scare voters away from Barack Obama, whose father was a (nominal) Muslim and who spent part of his youth... Read more

[Just noticed this post from a year ago languishing in my "drafts" folder. Better late than never.] For me as a Muslim parent living far from a sizable Muslim community, it's so nice to bring a small child to a decent-sized Muslim gathering, plop her down in the middle of a big room and have her surrounded by a bobbing forest of people doing namaaz. Such exposure to communal religious life is so important for children, and so easily neglected... Read more

It's hard to keep up with all the horrifying news out of Pakistan these days, but this just caught my eye. Some Muslim readers were taken aback by my blunt dismissal of Ahmadinejad as an "ass" who betrayed the Palestinian cause at the UN conference on racism. If you're still on the fence, take a look at this analysis from peole at always insightful IPS News Service who know far more than I. They seem to concur with every concern that I raised. Damn this selfish idiot. And damn this conflict for giving demagogues like him populist credibility they don't deserve. Iran's leader sparks Western walkout at UN meeting GENEVA – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused Israel of being the "most cruel and racist regime," sparking a walkout Monday by angry Western diplomats at a U.N. racism conference. The hardline leader's appearance overshadowed the substance of the weeklong United Nations attempt to stamp out intolerance worldwide. The United States and eight other Western... Read more

For a fleeting moment, modern society's soul-deadening din of narcissism and superficiality is drowned out by beauty and grace. YouTube – Susan Boyle – Singer – Britains Got Talent 2009 (With Lyrics) 47 Year old Susan Boyle wows the judges with her performance in the auditions for Britains Got Talent, singing I dreamed a dream from Les Miserables.
