A Need for Sabbath

A Need for Sabbath October 5, 2013

We all need to take time to pause in life. It’s so easy to get caught up in obligations and commit to things that we neglect to take care of ourselves. We run around doing and don’t rest or take the time to enjoy our lives.

For some people Sabbath and the day they go to church are the same but that isn’t my reality. My day of rest is full of physical rest and engaging the things and people that matter to me. I shut off my phone’s ringer and enjoy what is good in my life. Sometimes that even leads me to put on pants and leave my house, sometimes not. What matters most is that I take a bit of time and just be – not as a worker or any position I occupy at the time – but as me, Alicia.

So today Sabbath looks like cuddles with my dog, Breaking Bad on Netflix and naps.  I will not put on real clothes or do anything that requires me to do so because I choose not to and it will be glorious.

Sometimes you just have take a minute to do you so you can be who you need to be for others. So try taking a day/hour/week off and pause. It’s something we all need to do.
