A New Year, Intro to Project 2025, Threats to Freedom & Life December 27, 2023

In one of my last Patheos articles, I wrote about my strong opposition of the new Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson.  My husband Grant has warned me not to speak out against people for my own protection, so I stick with critiquing people who are high-up in office like Donald Trump, Greg Abbott, and Mike Johnson. In my opinion, Mike Johnson has a terrifying track record of Christian Nationalism and much of what it entails.

Anytime a new document such as Project 2025 is published, there is always room for interpretation. This is why I am going to insert a video from a news source called Courier, one who is good about fact checking.

In past articles, I listed the traits of fascism and linked them to current event articles.  Now that our democracy is in true danger, I  still have some hope that we can break free of the Christian Nationalist hold before Project 2025 could possibly be implemented.   Let’s look at a political scientist from Yale named Jason Stanley.   Stanley defines the traits of fascism in his video.  The key is, when most to all of them exist together concurrently, this is when we are in trouble. They are all happening concurrently at this moment in time. I believe they tie right into the blueprint of Project 2025 and the threats to historically-marginalized populations, including in our area of San Antonio, TX, especially in places like Texas.

The federal blueprint plan to execute a Christian Nationalist agenda in the United States can be found at  Project 2025 | Presidential Transition Project.  Directly from the mission statement off the website, “The goal of the 2025 Presidential Transition Project will build on four pillars that will, collectively, pave the way for an effective conservative administration: a policy agenda, personnel, training, and a 180-day playbook.  The project is the effort of a broad coalition of conservative organizations that have come together to ensure a successful administration begins in January 2025. With the right conservative policy recommendations and properly vetted and trained personnel to implement them, we will take back our government.  Noticed that I italicized and underlined the words “take back our government.”  If you choose to read through the 900 + page document, you will quickly understand that taking our government back would be through a minority authoritarian rule, not through a democracy created by the American people for the American people.

As I look at the lives of Latino immigrants, the disabled, and LGBTQ+ people I know in my local area, I realize how much danger a plan like Project 2025 would cause them.    If you are not involved with fighting for our democracy, I recommend that you get involved with a human rights, civil rights, or anti-Christian Nationalist organization. I believe we need to do everything we can to uphold democracy and our constitution. Lives are on the line, not just democracy.
