I’m Done with the Pro-Trump Church—Good Works Are a Must

I’m Done with the Pro-Trump Church—Good Works Are a Must December 16, 2024

I am so beyond done with the conservative pro-Trump Church in a multitude of different ways that I can’t even list them all. The only type of Church I can stomach is the polar opposite resistance to the Religious pro-Trump Right, and that’s the progressive Church.  Even further, the progressive Church needs to be actively working to dismantle systems of oppression the conservative pro-Trump church has caused which didn’t start with Trump.  The plans to usher in the power of the Religious Right’s Christian Nationalism started with Reagan.

For me to reject a particular flavor of Christianity /Catholicism, it must be a “White-only,” “Pro-Trump” fundie agenda for me to reject it. I don’t reject the people in it, but I do reject their continued unconditional allegiance to Trump and the Republican party.   I can respect other non-fundie branches in religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam so much more than I can respect a twisted brand of the Christian faith. The primary teachings of all major world religions align with The Golden Rule which is to love our neighbor as ourselves.   A pro-Trump, all-white fundie version of “Christianity/Catholicism” teaches the opposite, that if someone is not white, Republican, straight, “Christian,” and neurotypical, that person is “out.” Therefore, that person is a “less valuable” human being than “The Perfect.”

The conservative pro-Trump Church has been “in the works” for decades, well before Trump’s rise to power in 2016. This type of Church is built on “keeping people in line,” subjugating certain groups, siphoning money, and hiding abuses of many kinds, much more so than their token gestures of “good works.”

The progressive churches which are working to live the Gospel through action are the only types of churches I respect.  I would even say that non-profits who are not religious, and they are doing good work for the marginalized, are more in alignment with the work of the Gospel than the conservative pro-Trump church.

I have also reached some conclusions as a parent who has raised children with Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and later identifying as LGBTQ+ which is more common in families who have neurodivergent children. NO ONE has the right to tell others how to parent children with these identities unless they have done it themselves, or they have worked with and intimately know families who have these types of kids. So clergy and religious people who have little to no experience with raising, parenting, and/or working with kids like these, but they like to cast judgment and think they know better than doctors, parents, and professionals who actually care for LGBTQ+ youth/young adults are totally in-the-wrong.  These types who judge with little to no experience are placing these kids’ lives in danger.

There definitely needs to be an altar call for any church who has aligned with Trump and the Religious Right over the decades. I hear conservative laity and clergymen deny that Christian Nationalism even exists which is beyond ridiculous. They are simply denying involvement in and the unconditional support of Donald Trump. If thousands of books, interviews, articles, and other media written by Christian leadership specifically are not enough to expose the current state of Christian Nationalism, I don’t know what is. The denial shows a willful allegiance to the empire and chosen ignorance of current events and the marginalization of minority populations.
