5. Slamming minorities and all opponents. Insulting and slandering the minorities has been a norm. Calling all Mexicans rapists, “Islam is against us”, calling a Mexican judge incompetent because of his national origin and so on. Donald Trump does not shy away from barking back at anyone who says anything negative about him, tweeting even in the wee hours of the morning, showing zero tolerance for criticism and/or forgiveness- completely lacking a distinctly Biblical character trait.

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:31-32

Jesus called out the temple leaders of his time for hypocrisy many times in the Gospel. Are the Republican leaders following in their footsteps?

It would be hypocritical for me as a Muslim not to point out that similar disconnect between Islamic teachings and Muslim leaders’ behavior exists. This will be a topic for another post.

But after watching the state of the union last night and the debate on immigration, and Republicans repeatedly mixing politics and religion, writing this post became almost irresistible.
