MAJOR EVENTS
As June begins two planets are retrograde, meaning they appear to move backwards. Three planets turn retrograde during the month of June, so by the end of the month five planets will be in retrograde. For more about what that means you will want to review this discussion about the June retrogrades, but also be prepared for a great deal of looking back into the past and some difficulty in pushing our lives forward.
Mercury will turn retrograde on June 7th. Mercury is in Cancer at the point where it retrogrades but will move into mutable Gemini, Mercury’s own sign, by the 17th and remain there until after it turns direct again on July 1. In Gemini Mercury can easily adapt to changes of direction which will help to lubricate any changes required as we turn to the past to revisit old decisions that may need to be revised, or to remodel our house or reassess our future plans.
Most of the planetary interactions in June are smaller and faster moving, so we will be seeing less of the dramatic shifts and strange patterns of the past few months. The only exception is the conclusion of the harmonious grand trine with the last exact trine aspect between Saturn and Chiron (read more about that supportive process here).
JUNE DETAILS
With Ceres turning direct on June 1st its motion has slowed down to a crawl as it prepares to change direction, so expect to be more interested in food and nutrition-related matters. Care for the body is the domain of Ceres, and any places where this care is deficient will be noted now!
A harmonious sextile from Venus (love and beauty) to Neptune (spirit and creativity) on June 4th makes this a wonderful day to spend with loved ones or in creative pursuits. The urge for creative expression is heightened and the desire for inner peace becomes stronger.
On June 6th a harmonious sextile from the Sun to Uranus inspires us to make a change and may bring in new ideas and ways of looking at our world.
Mercury turns retrograde June 7th. Over the next few weeks try to pay more attention to the words you use, and be cautious when making purchases or signing contracts. It is very easy to overlook the details during Mercury retrograde periods.
The 8th is a day for healing. The Sun (illumination) aligns in a challenging square to Chiron, shining light on areas of our psyche or physical body which need healing, and a trine from Venus (relating) to Pluto (power and drama) intensifies relationships and makes everything seem more urgent and important.
On the 9th a harmonious trine from the Sun to Ceres encourages us to pay attention to the foods we eat and the ways in which the physical body is nourished. Neptune begins its six months in retrograde motion on the 9th, encouraging us to slow down our external awareness and turn within for spiritual sustenance and nurture.
The Sagittarius Full Moon takes place on June 13th, with the Moon in Sagittarius opposing the Gemini Sun. The Gemini/Sagittarius polarity encourages us to balance our curiosity about the world (Gemini) with the need to look for the essence of truth in the world around us (Sagittarius). Venus is active that day, harmonizing with Chiron to facilitate healing and wisdom in our relationships, and opposing Saturn to emphasize our obligations and responsibilities to the people around us. We may feel under this combination of influences that our duties to others (Venus/Saturn) interfere with our soul’s need to be free to seek experiences that teach us (Gemini/Sagittarius).
A challenging square from Mars (motivation) to Pluto (transformation) the day of the Full Moon could energize us to creatively transform our lives through the sheer force of our will. This aspect can also bring up repressed (Pluto) anger (Mars) and rage. Fortunately the harmonious trine from Saturn to Chiron peaks at the Full Moon will help to ensure that we are able to move through challenges (Saturn) to the healing process (Chiron).
A trine from the Sun to the North Node (destiny) on June 16th is generally favorable and could bring about a significant event that helps us to stay on our correct path.
On the 17th Mercury retrogrades back into Gemini where it will remain until after it turns direct and moves back into Cancer. For the rest of the month communication matters will be a little easier despite the retrograde, since Mercury in Gemini is very adaptable to changing situations.
The harmonious sextile from Venus (relationships) to Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) on the 18th brings a couple of days of lovely interpersonal harmony. This is a beautiful time for planning difficult conversations, or for bringing people together for any purpose. Jupiter is beginning to align in a challenging square to the North Node during this time, an aspect which culminates on the 23rd. During this time we may find ourselves coming face to face with an uncomfortable situation which we have avoided in the past so that we can work it out this time around. Venus/Jupiter will help to facilitate that resolution.
The Sun conjoins Mercury on the 19th, awakening the mind and facilitating mental efforts. This is an excellent time for business efforts. On the 21st the Sun enters Cancer, marking the Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere and the turning of the seasons.
Venus moves into Gemini on the 23rd, and for the next few weeks communication will be the key to unlocking our interpersonal relationships. We may find ourselves meeting new people and desiring to expand our circle of acquaintances.
Mars faces off against Uranus (radical behavior) in an opposition on the 25th, encouraging us to break free of restriction and rebel against the status quo. For a couple of days before and after our behavior can become more reckless and we can be more accident prone. Watch for arguments and accidents under this influence.
This aspect is embedded in the chart for the New Moon in Cancer, suggesting that the desire to find a place of emotional safety that Cancer inspires will be somewhat minimized by the need to find an independent expression of one’s ‘life under Mars/Uranus. However, a trine from Mercury to the North Node helps to foster a deeper understanding of where our life is really headed and facilitate the integration of these conflicting influences.
The New Moon in Cancer seeks to find a place of solace and comfort, either in the personal family, the community, the “tribe,” the nation. There is a desire to connect and to nurture, and to find nurturing as well. Mars/Uranus encourages us to break out of our established ideas of what gives us that solace and comfort, to find a new way of nurturing our loved ones and ourselves that goes beyond the traditions of our communities.
A trine from the New Moon to Neptune (spirituality, creativity) that culminates a few days after the New Moon will help to unlock the mysteries, and open up our hearts so that wisdom can make a home there. A square from Venus to Neptune could cast a fog over our relationships and make it somewhat difficult for us to see clearly for a few days, but this aspect can also enhance creativity and deepen our spiritual connections.
New Moons are time to forge new beginnings, and this New Moon inspires us to forge new pathways in our connections with our loved ones. Patterns that provided comfort in the past no longer work in the same way, and new patterns must be created in order to find increased compassion and connection.
Mercury will be slowing down at the end of the month in preparation for its direct turn on July 1st. The end of the month is a great time to look back and assess anything that has not yet been completed. Once Mercury turns direct our attention will be redirected into the future where we will have an opportunity for a fresh start.
