In the midst of all of the gift-giving this Christmas season, I was reminded the other day of what my children really want for Christmas. A couple of days ago, I had the blessing of an hour alone with my son, just the two of us with some time to go and do whatever we wanted. We decided to have lunch at our favorite sub shop and then to go and paint a Christmas ornament at a pottery place next door. I wasn’t really hungry, but he urged me to share his sandwich and chips with him. At the pottery place, I was planning on just letting him paint, but he really wanted me to paint with him. And then I realized what I already knew deep down: my son wants me to enter into his world and discover it anew with him. He wants me to see things as he sees them, and to share experiences with him. He doesn’t just want me to spend time passively with him – he wants me to be engaged and excited in the same way that he is. This is what Christopher really wants for Christmas.
Maybe Jesus wants the same thing for me this Christmas. Maybe He wants me to see things as He sees them, as only He could see them, and to experience life in a whole new way, through the eyes of a child.
God bless you all this morning!
