As my father laboriously installed 24″ sliding locks on the french doors leading to our learning room (previous locking attempts having been thwarted), our 4 year old engineer Dash observed: “Papa, those should work until I figure out how to open them.” Read more

On Christmas Eve our church was filled to capacity. We managed to arrive early enough to find a pew that was empty and pile in our six children along with their coats, angel wings, and a stuffed lamb for the shepherd, but it seemed like we got the last seats, because everyone who walked in after us had to stand… I felt awkward, sitting when others didn’t have a place, so when a nice looking man approached our pew I... Read more

When we moved into our home 18 months ago, it felt quite large and spacious to me – definitely plenty of room for our little family of 4. I remember the previous owners leaving us a note that said, “We hope that you enjoy this little house as much as we have,” and thinking to myself, “Little?!” The house felt just right, and as first-time homeowners, my husband and I were thrilled to finally be moving in and making the... Read more

A very happy new year to all of our readers! Things have been pretty quite around our house as the entire family has been out for the count with a nasty cold or flu virus. I came down with the bug on Wednesday, we were forced to defrost our entire refrigerator (long story) on Thursday afternoon, and then deal with an clogged and overflowing toilet! My head couldn’t have felt worse, and so I headed to bed at 9:30pm. I... Read more

As I spend my mornings this week in the waiting room during our son’s occupational therapy “camp” one of the other moms suggested getting together for a weekly playdate to practice the skills the boys are learning. Everyone heartily assented and next followed an exchange of cards…not business cards per se, but what I am calling “Mommy Cards”. I was unaware of this phenomena…printing business-like cards with your name, phone number, email, to easily share contact information. Brilliant! No more... Read more

I am in love with the idea of Christmastide. To rejoice in Christmas into the new year is fantastic. I am rescued from dismal post-Christmas days and have reason to continue rejoicing. Back when I was growing up, my family relished the Christmas holiday as we rejoiced in the birth of our Savior. All the anticipation and excitement culminated in the climactical Christmas celebration, ending in a single day. But the let-down the day after was always excruciating, especially for... Read more

Let us love the Child of Bethlehem. Come souls and love a God who has become a Child, poor and so lovable, in need of our tender love, who has come down from heaven to give Himself entirely to you. If we but ask for pardon and salvation, He has come to pardon us and to save us. — St. Francis of Assisi Merry Christmas from our families to yours. May the peace and joy of the birth of Christ... Read more

All of the pre-Christmas madness came to a grinding halt this weekend as the northeast, and particularly the Philadelphia area, was paralyzed by a massive blizzard. We received 23 inches of snow–2 feet!!!–on Saturday, and the main roads in town are still a mess. (The above photos were taken after only 1 foot fell). The snow started falling at 3am on Saturday, and didn’t stop until 4am on Sunday morning. That’s 25 hours of snow. Mr. Red went out to... Read more
