Thanks to Queen B, our dear sister and doctor mom, for the following information (and I tossed in an image for your enjoyment): What a billboard to drive by!  If nothing else good can be said about it, it has sparked a great conversation about an important subject, namely co-sleeping.  It would be interesting to know who sponsored the billboard, because as with many things in life, context is everything. Juris Mater’s question about the safety of co-sleeping, prompted by... Read more

Last weekend, while driving home from the airport, my mom saw a huge billboard near a major hospital with a picture of a pretty female doctor that read: “I’ll be the last one to see your baby. I do autopsies. Never sleep with your baby.” Is there really strong enough medical evidence now that cosleeping endangers infants? I thought the debate was mostly philosophical and a matter of personal preference. Such a strong statement is tantamount to something like “on... Read more

One of my favorite parts of our afternoons at the pool is watching Leo’s strategy: slide up to whoever has a good looking snack and say “were you going to offer some to me?“ He has had equally success at the ball field with “would you like to share your fries with me?” Read more

It has been one of those days. Our little one was dragged under water at the pool this morning (even with coast guard approved flotation device) prompting me to dive in and fish him out. Much choking and sputtering later he was ok. Later, our big boy choked on a lollipop (one of the only kinds he can have) when it came off the stick. Determining that it was faster to drive to the ER than call an ambulance (we... Read more

Awhile ago we had a great discussion on some ideas for a good family routine when trying to teach older kids and keep little ones happy and out of (too much) trouble. I promised several people that I would share what has worked in our family this year. As much as I would love to spend the next few years in a relaxed manner reading and following rabbit trails, the reality is that this does not work for our oldest... Read more

My hat goes off to one of my oldest and dearest friends, Amy, who was just featured on CNN for a mission she started back in November.  She decided to wear a simple gray dress for 6 months and donate the money she would have spent on clothes to The Daughter Project, an organization seeking to aid women coming out of sex slavery in the Toledo, Ohio area (incidentally ranked 4th in the country for sex trafficking). Amy ministers to... Read more

PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT O Lord Jesus Christ Who, before ascending into heaven did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only... Read more

From the Simply Charlotte Mason blog: Shaping requires intimate knowledge, trusting relationship, careful monitoring, constant interaction. We must become our children’s students, studying them, learning about them, discovering where they need shaping and how best to use our shaping tools in their lives. (This series of posts on the process of shaping based on Miss Mason’s motto for students: I am, I can, I ought, I will looks really interesting!) Read more

As B-Mama explained, Red has been caring for her little boy.  We all know how exhausting it is to have a sick child, the physical demands and the worry which just wares you down over time, and this boy has been sick for almost a month now, and, frankly, complicated and worrying for most of his little life.  They have a finally received a diagnosis of a rare intestinal disorder which explains his mild symptoms over the long term and... Read more

Red has given me permission to post a request to our readers for your prayers. You may have noticed Red and family were missing in the photos from the reunions post. The reason for this was due to the fact that Red’s son, Gus (3), has been sick with a GI illness over the past 3 weeks. He had an unfortunate flare up while the family was enjoying the P-rade Saturday afternoon and has since been in the hospital while... Read more
