I have a new book coming in April 2018: The Little Book of Christian Mysticism! Click on the title to pre-order your copy today.

The Little Book of Christian Mysticism invites you to delve into the writings of the great contemplatives and mystics of the past two thousand years.

Featuring over three hundred quotations from great mystics from Biblical times to the present day, The Little Book of Christian Mysticism provides a user-friendly, insightful, and potentially life-changing introduction to the essential teachings of the greatest mystics in the western wisdom traditions, past and present.

Pre-Order The Little Book of Christian Mysticism from your favorite bookseller: AmazonBarnes & Noble, or an Independent Bookstore (click on the links to order).

In this inspirational anthology you’ll find gems of wisdom from Francis of Assisi, Hildegard of Bingen, Howard Thurman, Evelyn Underhill, Meister Eckhart, Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, and Julian of Norwich, among many others. Readers can use this book to initiate themselves into this visionary and ecstatic spiritual lineage, and they can also use it as a book of daily meditations. Small enough to fit in one’s pocket or handbag, this is truly a user-friendly introduction to this venerable body of wisdom.

As the title suggests, my new book is a companion volume to my previous book, The Big Book of Christian Mysticism. It completes my “Christian mysticism trilogy”:

  • The Big Book of Christian Mysticism talks about what mysticism is, why it is (or should be) part of the Christian faith, and how we can apply the timeless wisdom of the mystics to our spiritual lives today;
  • Christian Mysticism: 108 Seers, Saints and Sages tells the story of the greatest Christian mystics, from Biblical times to today: who they were, what they said, and how their lives and teachings can help you discern your unique mystical path;
  • The Little Book of Christian Mysticism lets the mystics speak for themselves, with quotations from the great mystical classics arranged in an inductive manner, perfect for devotional reading, for daily meditation, or for personal or group study.

What’s amazing about writing or editing books about the Christian mystics is that, with each of these books, the writing/editing process became a spiritual practice all its own. The mystics are great teachers, and I can confidently say that these books are filled with wisdom — because it’s not my wisdom, it’s theirs, born out of their profound and life-changing relationship with God.

I hope and pray that you have a similar experience as you read these books: that they will not just be pleasurable to read (although I hope they are), or informative to read, but actually that they will invite you deeper into your own spiritual practice — which is to say, deeper in your relationship with God. Let the mystics be your guide, and mystical wisdom be your path. The goal, of course, is God, and the miracle is that God has already arrived in your heart. So let the mystics guide you to God’s presence, secretly (mystically) hidden in the silence within you.
