A Prayer for Unity

Here’s an entry from The Christophers’ “Three Minutes a Day” book:

In order to help us achieve the unity to which God calls us, here is a special prayer to the Holy Spirit:

“When we are divided in our family, Holy Spirit, make us one.

“When wars divide us, Holy Spirit, make us one.

“When injustice and exploitation build barriers, Holy Spirit, make us one.

“When divisions beset your Church, Holy Spirit, make us one.

“When sin separates us from the Body of Christ, Holy Spirit, make us one.

“When we come to the final stage of our life’s journey, Holy Spirit, make us one. Amen.”

Families, workplaces, churches, and nations all suffer from divisions from time to time, some of which can lead to physical or emotional violence. We need God’s help in order to bring healing to these situations. Be open to the Holy Spirit’s loving guidance.

The spirit of the Lord God is upon me…he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted. (Isaiah 61:1)

Help me to be a peacemaker, Holy Spirit.
