Conversation: Be the Church

Conversation: Be the Church

Her: “How can I get plugged into the church? My husband and I attend every Sunday and are a part of a small group. What else can I do at the church?”

Me: “How do you feel God leading you? What are your gifts? How are you wired?”

Her: “Well, I recently had two young mothers ask to meet for coffee and I am super excited about that.”

Me: “Why did they want to meet with you?”

Her: “I assume because they need wisdom about being a mom and a wife and they see me as someone who can help?”

Me: “Then why in the world are you looking for something to do at the church!?”

Her: “Because I feel like that’s not enough.”

Me: “Where did you get that idea?”

Her: “I don’t know. I feel like I need to be doing something else at the church.”

Me: “Pouring into eager and teachable young mothers is EXACTLY what followers of Christ do! This will be incredibly more valuable than just attending or leading a Bible Study at the church with other Christian women.”

Her: “Really?”

Me: “YES! Being AT the church building doesn’t make you a Christian. God has given you an opportunity to be the church where you live. Embrace it. Look for other opportunities. Then embrace what He continues to put right in front of you.”

What about YOU? What opportunities is God putting right in front of you? Are you looking for God away from the church building? Instead of going TO the church; He might be calling you to BE the church where you are.
