1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
3 and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears. . .
You know what your soul needs right now – more than anything? The same as my soul. We need the wisdom and understanding and counsel and might and knowledge and fear of Jesus. That’s who Isaiah is talking about in chapter 11. Jesus. The One who is living and reigning and ruling and directing and arranging and moving everything toward His purposes (See Colossians 1:15-20).
Get this, now. Come in here real close: We have access to HIM! We have access to His Spirit that is full of wisdom and understanding and counsel and might! We have access to the way He judges – who, by the way, doesn’t judge by what He sees. He judges by what is right and good and true and holy and loving and merciful and gracious.
Can I plead with you to do something? Can I beg you to make a commitment to yourself during this bizarre season?
BALANCE MEDIA HEADLINES WITH THE HEADLINES OF THE BIBLE
That phrase isn’t original with me. I heard it here. But, man oh man is it true and needed!
If you are going to watch the news (which, I recommend just turning it off and getting your information here and here); and if you are going to be on social media (which I highly recommend you limit yourself as a spiritual discipline) – PLEASE, for the love of all that is good and holy – FEED YOUR SOUL FROM THE ONE WHO IS IN CONTROL OF EVERYTHING!!
Take a deep breath.
Take another one.
Jesus has the Spirit of the Lord. It is a Spirit of wisdom and understanding and counsel and might. It is a Spirit that delights – not in the fear of what Lester Holt or Facebook says – but the fear of the Lord. It is a Spirit that is directed, not by what is seen, but by what is unseen. He is available. He is listening. He wants to give you peace.
Why don’t you power everything off right now? Maybe for an hour or so. . . and listen. Breathe. Listen. Tell Him what’s on your heart. And listen to what is true.
Speak to us, Jesus. Your people are listening. . .
