Sunday (April 19th), the BBC campus pastors began a series through the Sermon on the Mount. The first sermon focused on the Beatitudes of Jesus, Matthew 5:1-12. The last three verses deal with persecution that comes with following Jesus. Mark that down. One fourth of the first 12 verses of Jesus’ sermon speaks directly to persecution that comes with following Him. If you aren’t being mistreated in some way for following the Lord, something is off.
Though the persecution seems to be ramping up in North America, considering the persecution that is happening all over the world – comparatively, we have it made. To put it another way, persecution in North America – currently – looks very different from other parts of the world. A Christian in North America may lose a job, or tax status, or a friend, even a family member. A Christian in the Middle East may lose their head.
I want to invite you to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters all around the world. Below are several links I challenge and encourage you to take a look at. Read. Weep. Pray. Read some more. Be challenged. Evaluate your own heart and life. Pray more. Remember what Jesus calls all who are persecuted for His sake – BLESSED.
