Dear Republicans and Democrats across this sanctified country,
Neither of you is the solution, and both of you are the problem when it comes to experiencing peace in this country. Forget world peace. The United States doesn’t even have it, and we won’t as long as both of you continue to be awful at your job. To the leaders and members of the DNC and GOP, you had one job. One. And you can’t even do that right.
You’re like the meteorologists of America: If you get your job wrong, who cares? Nothing will happen to you, and you’ll still be employed in the morning. Sure, it rained all night when you promised sunny reasons of hope and justice, but nope. The country is in a shambles under an overpass begging for help, and the only answer for peace and prosperity in this country is being used as a political doy toy.
Yes, Jesus!
Whenever decisions are on the line and America lies in the balance, you squeeze the “thoughts and prayers” for the audible squeak and then throw it in a corner out of sight. If you want to increase interest from one of the largest and most influential groups in this country—Christians—the DNC and GOP playbook says, “Talk about God. Tickle the impression of Jesus. And go about your business like nothing ever happened.”
And it has worked for millennia, but time is up. No one is qualified in the White House, Senate or the House of Representatives to focus on faith and fix the chasm of this country. You all use duct tape and Gorilla Glue like it’s on sale at the dollar store. But nothing keeps us together because there are no permanent solutions anywhere.
And we have Charlie Kirk to thank for this. Exposing both of your dunderheaded groups may be the guy’s most incredible legacy (since everyone wants to put one on him like a riveting game of Pin the Tail on the Donkey). What’s interesting is that it was never his intent. Want to bet? That’s what you’re good at, so let’s open this letter.
Before we read this open letter, stay in touch with other faith-based issues that hit “close to home.” Subscribe to our free newsletter and stay informed about what’s happening in the Church, as well as the ways real Christians can contribute to defending the love and work of Christ.
DNC and GOP Leaders, Are You Willing to Step Up?

Did you see that Christ-centered, Spirit-filled vigil for Charlie Kirk in Glendale, Arizona? State Farm Stadium welcomed 73,000 people, who filled the venue by 8 a.m. An estimated 200,000 mourners were turned away. Most of these people wanted to say goodbye to a person they had never met, to thank the Lord for an example of nationalistic pride and righteous strength they had only admired from afar.
Why would they do that? The Arizona Cardinals can’t even pack their house like that, but a memorial service for Charlie Kirk could have done that three times over.
People care about the direction of this country. They want truth in Congress and to support it adherently. So what does it say to you that 82% of this country—the people who put each of you in office—don’t trust you at all. That poll isn’t just about the White House and your vitriol directed toward the West Wing. Or, yours dripping in fanfare along the Rose Garden. It’s about all of you.
- If you’re a Representative, you don’t have time to care. You have a two-year term, so after a few weeks of moving into your office, you’re back to running for a new term.
- The president gets four years, so after he’s rolled out the “big announcements” in the first 100 days, it’s back to the greatest hits. That’s except for the last year and a half, which is reserved for running again.
- Senators have it easy with a six-year guarantee on the government’s dime. If only America thought you did any work.
What does any of that have to do with Charlie Kirk? People are so attracted to change that they flock to anything resembling progress. Notice what happens the next time you show up anywhere. Change matters, and it works. Yet, change is something this country hasn’t received in years.
And why? Because all America sees on C-SPAN looks like a riveting game of Family Feud.
You two and your DNC and GOP ilk hate each other. You’ve stopped listening to each other. And you dang sure don’t hang out at the annual Thanksgiving brunch. No one trusts either of you to do anything worthwhile because watching an act being legislated is worse than an episode of “The View.”
People listened to Charlie, which is why that stadium was packed. He loved Jesus and still had an opinion that wasn’t full of hate and angst. Forget the fact that he wears a “red” tie. But a blue tie on him makes him a champion for other values. If he challenged people with an open debate without trolling those who opposed him, he would be beloved.
Look at Chicago’s Grant Park in 2008 and let us know. In fact, forget that video. You may break out in hives. Watch another president, a fake one. However, it was a movie, the words penned by Aaron Sorkin ring louder than ever. We need change, but instead of a revolution, we’re stuck with each other. Barack Obama opened the door to that change. You closed it. Charlie Kirk kicked down that door and was executed for it.
We’re back with you. We’ll take anything, as this prophetic tone will echo. Start at 2:45. You’ll see.
Sand doesn’t taste good, but we’ll try anything. God help us. He gave us each of you. Please help us. It’s your turn to stand up again anyway.
Sincerely,
America (or, at least, those of us open to a spirited discussion without hate, personal attacks, and non-sequitur reasoning)
