More Than Enough

More Than Enough March 30, 2018

As long as we have blood running through our veins, our fallen nature will fight to claim its independence from God. We want to do it our way or no way at all. We don’t want to need anyone, we believe we can do it ourselves. We believe if we depend on anyone it will only bring disappointment. We become too proud to need God to help us, so we take care of ourselves… and that choice usually ends with poor outcomes.

Often, this thinking stems from someone failing us in a time of need in our life. Someone rejected us, abandoned us, neglected, betrayed, or left us alone and unloved, or abused us. Somewhere, we adopted a message that said, “There’s no one here for me, and God doesn’t care.” So we make an agreement in our heart that says, “I will never allow myself to be in a place to ever need anyone or need God in my life.” We shut out everyone and God and do life on our own terms in our own way.

When we don’t ask God to help us make decisions, for guidance, provision, and submit our will to Him, it’s because of pride. Pride breeds independence. But God wants us to be totally dependent on Him. Why? Because He’s our Father who loves us and desperately wants to help us. God desires for us to look to Him for everything we need in life so we can discover that He is more than enough for us.

“Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God…”  2 Corinthians 3:5

I have spent much of my life in survival mode, believing no one was there for me, including God. I relied on myself- my abilities, my resources, and my extensive life experiences and did most things my way, not God’s way. I chose paths of sinful independence from God.

But one day, God removed all my resources and leveled my experiences to ashes. I had been stripped and left with nothing to depend on anymore. It was apparent that I couldn’t adequately take care of myself like I had prided myself in. He humbled me and showed me He was more than enough for me, my life, and for my heart.

I learned to rely on God for every need I had. He became my safe place, my provider, my shield, my healer, my confidant, and the love of my life.

God never leaves us, abandons us, rejects us, or betrays us. God never neglects our needs, our heart, or leaves us unloved or uncared for. He won’t leave us behind, forget about us, nor leave us to ourselves. God’s love and provision will never, ever fail us. Where others fail us, God will not.

“…for He has said, “I will never under any circumstances desert you nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless, nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you assuredly not!” Hebrews 13:5

God is a good, good Father. What good parent doesn’t love their child and act in their best interest? He knows better than we do and can take better care of us than we can take care of ourselves.

If you live independent from God and find you’re doing life without fully depending on Him every day for everything, think about the triggers, and about the messages you’ve received, and the agreements you made in your heart that created that independent life.

Today, take hold of the truth and know that God is more than enough for your every need in life.
