The election: A different take

The election: A different take August 3, 2016

I’ll admit that there is little to be happy about when it comes to this year’s election.  Politics was my initial major in college. I became enamored with politics and American political history in 1980.  I was in 8th Grade.  Halfway through college, I changed majors.  I had worked with two campaigns, able to hear backroom discussions, and witnessing the melee from both parties’ POV.  That was enough to put a streak of morality in me that said teaching would be a more noble undertaking.  It’s also where I realized the idea that one party or another is inherently anything more than the other is a fool’s perspective.

Still, I follow politics and, in a free country, feel my Christian faith obliges me to be part of it, just like I should be part of anything that has to do with loving my neighbor.  After all, my involvement, including my votes, could make a difference, a difference that might impact my neighbor as much as me.  With that thought, this particulate election is as depressing as one can get.  There is no clear choice between the two parties for a Christian seeking even a near Christian alternative.  Since I consider abortion to be a deal breaker, and most of what Trump says downright scares me and would turn away even the most marginal Christians, the choices are nothing, at least from the two major parties.

So it was with some delight that I found this piece.  It doesn’t pull any punches about what is happening, but does kick around a few different ways to see things.  All in all, not a bad take.  Not that it is happening or is real, but it’s always nice to see that others can find some thin ray of hope in the darkest times.
