These liberals have a point

These liberals have a point September 21, 2016

According to this FOX story, liberals are denouncing the media for not derailing the Trump train.  They’re not the only ones.  Most people, especially Republicans, were outraged as the media covered the primaries like covering a reality TV show.  Many of these scandals, such as his Foundation, his refusal to release taxes, his lack of a coherent foreign policy, were all brought up by opponents during the primaries.  And when they were brought up, the media covered it the same way: Will this be able to take down Trump?  Will Trump beat this?  Let’s watch and see!

The media could have spent as much time on these scandals then as it is now.  Instead, the media made little to no effort to actually delve into the accusations.  Rather, like fans watching a prize fight, they sat back and made the story about the odds that one of the other primary candidates can make it stick.  The more Trump seemed to overcome unimaginable gaffes and unending accusations by the GOP candidates, the more the media almost seemed to love the fact that he was able to dodge one attack or scandal after another.

Now people are becoming a bit uneasy.  As Hillary’s no good, very bad weeks help narrow her lead, and in some polls eliminate it, a Trump presidency, the stuff of The Simpsons cartoons a year ago, seems possible.  And in a way I cannot fully explain, Trump now seems almost immune to incidents that would have pulverized a politician four years ago.  Remember Romney’s infamous 47%, brought to us by a hidden tape released by the media?  That did it.  The media dutifully dragged the video into the spotlight and it was the end of Romney.

Now that it is getting close, the media spends every day running with stories, accusations, and scandals that would typically end anyone’s candidacy. But this time it isn’t working.  No matter what Trump says or does, no matter what dirt is dragged out to use against him, he maintains his support and, in some places, seems to makes gains.  True, the majority of Americans don’t want him.  But never forget, the majority of Americans didn’t want Bill Clinton either.
