My boys on Trump

My boys on Trump December 22, 2016

So they’re on Christmas break.  Tonight they’re having a night with the youngest that they call their ‘Bro Night.’  They were wanting to know what movie to watch.

My boys, enjoying the whole Comics genre, suggested the movie Guardians of the Galaxy.  I asked them for an appropriateness appraisal.  They discussed it.  They felt there is language that’s not appropriate for a 7 year old.  Then one of them quipped, “But then, it’s nothing he hasn’t heard Trump say!”

When we were doing a lesson on Government for my youngest, the phone rang.  It was one of those robo calls advertising a Trump rally in the area.  Since we were doing Government anyway, I asked my 7 year old if he’d like to go and hear Donald Trump.  “Uh uh,” he said, “he’s not kid friendly!”

I love kids.

So please, understand that I, like most I know, were appalled at things Trump said.  It’s just that many are equally appalled at other cases of similar rhetoric.

Likewise, when I see stories like this, I’m not thrilled either.  Because of 1980s Reaganhysteria, I’m inclined to be cautious about the new version.  Nonetheless, I’m not going to be blind about things that are legitimately concerning. And given the declining state of our relationship with Russia, the thought that both of our leaders are reaching for more nukes does not make me sleep well at night.
