Understanding France’s new president

Heh. This caught my eye because when first saw Macron in the news, macarons came to my mind.

I have no clue.  I’ve not followed France’s politics.  I know that before it came down to the final two, he was part of a movement that didn’t bode well for France’s establishment.  Once it came down to him and Le Pen, most backed his candidacy.  Her candidacy was compared to the Beer Hall Putsch.  His victory was seen as an anti-Trump and anti-Brexit validation, not the result of misogyny.  That’s about the sum total of my knowledge.  But the picture was funny.  How accurate it is remains to be seen.
