And America rocks! Take that world! Heh. Can’t help but indulge in some good old pride in our country. The whole Olympics went off without a hitch, and no violence or major problems. Which is praiseworthy in itself. Speaking of praise, I’ll touch on something I and many others have noticed later. But for now, it’s enough to be thankful for a good overall Olympic experience, the inspiration that comes from watching so many athletes compete and excel, and of course a little gloating for that American medal count! Go U.S.A.! And thanks to all the Olympic competitors for once again amazing and inspiring us.
One note. I must confess I broke with my patriotic duties to root for Jamaica in the men’s sprinting competitions. I mean, Usain Bolt. How could I note cheer for him? This is the Olympics that saw an end to two eras from two of the greatest athletes ever to grace the Olympic stage. Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt. My boys compared them to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones in the 60s. The two groups who dominated a music scene filled with legendary artists and musical groups. Two athletes who rose above a field of phenomenal competitors. It will be many years before the likes of those two are seen again.
