This doesn’t surprise me

Once again I’m seeing outrage pop up about this.  Apparently an MTV writer told Jeff Sessions to take his Asian grandchild back to Toys R Us.  The gist being he was only using the baby as a prop to prove he’s not a racist.

Nothing unusual there.  I’ve read many pieces over the years insisting that no matter what a person does, no matter how many minorities they are friends with, how many they help, how open and loving they are to minorities, that doesn’t mean they’re not a racist.

You might say that, as a matter of fact, the second son was the obedient one*.   It doesn’t matter what you do, it’s what you say.  In the face of that, sometimes people will be jerks, with a tad bit of subtle racism to boot, in order to prove the point.

It just shows that there is racial intolerance across party lines, and people can be rude across party lines.   But that’s all.

Plus, it’s an MTV writer people.  That’s MTV writer. I’ve already spent more time thinking about what MTV writers have to say than I normally do in any given year.

*“But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?”   Matthew 21.28-31.
