Speaking on the Senate floor Wednesday afternoon, presidential candidate and South Carolina Senator, Lindsey Graham compared Dylann Roof, the shooter responsible for killing 9 people inside a historic black church to Islamic extremists.

“I don’t know how you can sit with somebody for an hour in a church and pray with them and get up and shoot them,” he said. “That’s Mideast hate. That’s something I didn’t think we had here but apparently we do.”

So if there was any doubt that Graham is a bigot, that should be cleared up by now.

Graham, like many others in the Republican Party, refuse to accept or admit that racism runs rampant in this country and inside their own party. Doing so means they would have to accept that their voter base is made up racists who defend the Confederate flag and breed the kind of hatred that leads to the Dylann Roof’s of the world.

It was not Mideast hate that drove Roof to kill 9 people, it was American hate, and until we admit that, Roof will not be the last.
