During Thursday night’s Republican presidential debate on Fox News, moderator and Fox host Megyn Kelly grilled New Jersey Governor Chris Christie about his stance against profiling, arguing that profiling could have stopped the San Bernardino shooting.
“Now you have said we should not profile. How do you square that with the San Bernardino case?” Kelly asked.
Christie responded, “you can do it without profiling, Megyn. You do it on the facts. What those folks knew was that these folks had weapons, they knew that they were talking about trying to take our country and attack it. That’s not profiling, that’s law enforcement.”
“They didn’t know they were going to attack the country,” Kelly replied.
Christie attempted to clarify his position, saying, “They knew they were talking about the issues of attacking people, Megyn. They knew that.”
But Kelly didn’t let up, saying the neighbors “saw men going in and out of the garage.”
“They saw packages being delivered. They saw Muslims, and they did not think that was enough to call the cops. Do you?” she asked.Seeing Muslims is enough reason to call the cops? By that argument, I should have called the police five times just dropping my son off at school this morning. I also saw a UPS truck in my neighborhood, and I can’t be sure, but I bet there are a few Muslims in my area. Should I have alerted officials?
Kelly is arguing for racial and religious profiling, plain and simple. If you see someone with brown skin and you are an illogically frightened person, call the cops and mess with people’s lives because you can’t get a grip on reality.
There was nothing the neighbors of the San Bernardino shooters could have done to stop the act. Seeing packages being delivered to a Muslim house and the residents using their garage is not a crime.
The thing that makes terrorism successful is that these terrorists are able to blend in with society and keep their plans to themselves.
That is not what conservative voters want to hear, however, they want to be told it is okay to profile people they are afraid of and do so without consequences.
