God in the kitchen

God in the kitchen

Brother Lawrence was a monk in Paris, France during the 1600’s who made it his life to communicate with God constantly. He spent his days working in the monastery kitchen where he dedicated his simple tasks to the glory of God as he sought to commune with the Almighty in a perpetual state of prayer.

I can barely fathom what it would be like to talk to God constantly throughout my day. Instead of praying to my heavenly Father as set about my tasks, “God, please guide my hands and let me honor you with my work,” I tend to find myself whining, “Why on earth do I have to bother with all of this nonsense…”

You might think that the work that provides provision might be enough reason to release praise from my lips. But the everyday just gets in the way, and I spend most of my time in a mental godless oblivion.

I have so much work to do…

“There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful, than that of a continual conversation with God. Those only can comprehend it who practice and experience it.” …
