“Are you on this planet to do something, or are you just here for something to do?”
— James Kounzes

Try this little assignment

Take a long look at the first older person you see (let’s say seventies or higher is ‘old’ for this exercise). After you watch them for a few minutes, try to imagine the big things that happened in their lifetime and how they are feeling about their past at that moment.

Are they nostalgic? Remorseful? Regretful? Disappointed? Satisfied? Proud?

Now try to imagine how they are feeling about their future.

Are they optimistic? Hopeful? Resigned? Depressed? Afraid?

Now put yourself in their shoes for a minute. You are now seventy something and the sands of time are slipping away. How will you feel about your past? How do you feel about your future?

This isn’t meant to be just an abstract thought; it’s a real exercise you can try out for yourself to help you get an honest read of where you are with God today.

Somedays it’s good to remember that God has given us this one moment — all all the others — to honor Him.

Please, share with a friend if you feel moved.
