He can force fumbles and cause crows to fly into receivers outstretched arms. He can flood the red zone or cause locusts to descend on the opposing team. But I think he likes a good game, and he’ll be watching on the big screen. Because He could care less about the outcome of the Super Bowl, but he’s crazy about you. Read more
I once lost a watch. It was a gift from my uncle who had passed away. I searched pockets, bags, boxes, car seats and turned everything inside- out- upside down. Nowhere. I was devasted, as if this this piece of jewelry had slain my spirit. Eventually it turned up. It was in a pair of pants in the trunk of my car. It’s interesting how we look at the things we lose in life. Rather than the object being the... Read more
As homosexual marriage sweeps our land, we are told that these are loving couples who deserve compassion and fairness. And it doesn’t stop there, as social programs are undergirded with the “love first” slogan. Even in the church, we are taught to love the sinner. And that is true, as that is God’s action and it is my First Duty to emulate that. Even when pressed to be honest, we know it’s just a no win situation and you need to back away slowly. I mean swiftly. Read more
The blinking cursor greets me. “How can I find peace?” I type slowly, feeling a little silly. Here I am “Googling,” a nonsensical word that would have inspired laughs and guffaws 10 years ago. Today, it’s a part of our eeryday lexicon, a verb and a noun all in one. I ask the ghost in the machine the question. It takes Google all of .39 seconds to find more than 860 million results. That won’t do me much good. “Narrow your... Read more
Show a little respect You don’t have to be buddies with the boss. You don’t have to be chummy. You don’t even have to “like” him. But we are all called to be respectful. The spirit of disrespect comes out in a thousand little ways, each one cutting its way into office harmony. You say the boss hasn’t earned your respect? We are really without excuse. We are called to something much greater. “Be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and the gentle but also to the unjust.” 1 Peter 2.18. Read more
