Punching the time clock

Punching the time clock January 17, 2008

Our work lives are dominated by the clock. In nearly every profession these days, we are ruled by time — how many widgets we can make in an hour, how much time we spend on customer calls, how quickly we can rotate tires. Our society is an efficient machine, yet stress caused by this constant measurement is always nipping at our heels.

But when we think about it, everything has measure. Over a lifetime, you’ll spend approximately 28 years sleeping, 25 years working, 14 years watching TV, 8 years eating, 7.5 years in leisure or miscellaneous activities and 3.5 years getting dressed.

In the end, time is our most precious resource. It’s a tick-tock countdown to the end.

So my goal at work – and at life – is to make the moments count for something.

“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
Psalm 90:12
