Reflections on rest

Reflections on rest

Many of you are already responding to the call to reflect on Sabbath rest.

The effort is current the feature on Group Writing Projects.
Jennifer, the writer of the beautifully reflective blog, Getting down with Jesus, at first experienced guilt because of her busyness. But then she reflects, “If rest is entering the presence of God, if it is leaning back into His arms, if it is experiencing His grace, then I am drowning in rest.” Read the rest of her post here.

Cathie, over at Carelines was the original inspiration for this exercise. Now on her second week of purposeful Sabbath observation, she confesses that her planned day of rest “was a flop.” So for this week, she is planning ahead to get all her work done on Saturday, so she can rest on Sunday. Read her posts here, here and here.

Jim who writes Bear Tracks, says that Sabbath has many different looks, but he keeps two rules. “It must be holy….and at it’s core, be ‘set apart.’ And “it must be restful.” Read his comments here.

Kaye, the energizer bunny of bloggers and author of Thrive Christian, says she’ll eat least take “time to be quiet and ponder this deep word: rest.” She’s also had a long-time mentor who was constantly advising her to slow down.

So how about you? What can we learn from our Jewish friends? From sunset on, they concentrated on family, friendship, fellowship and faith. They set aside an entire day for these things – and it works. Why is so hard for us?
