Shake me to wake me

Shake me to wake me January 4, 2008

The midweek social experience is virtually extinct in this nation.

Few join the Kiwanis or a bridge club. Our social experience comes from living vicariously through our Internet pals or our favorite television programs that we can now watch on demand. Camped out in front of our television or computer, we simply do not need anyone else.

And the church has given up trying to drawing people away from their cocoons on anything but Sundays. Mid-week services are attended by a few faithful prayer warriors who are dying off one-by-one.

Somebody shake us to wake us! For most of us, Christianity is as tidy as our home life. We have church on Sunday morning and maybe a kids program in the middle of the week. Occasionally we’ll venture out for a special speaker or a concert or a Christmas program. Our friends are Christians and we will share a meal out or spend an evening with them. But beyond our cozy little world, we come in contact with very few who don’t believe the way we do.

Except at the workplace.

That’s where the real people are. That’s where the majority of people socialize. That’s where they make friends. That’s where their fears and frustrations come to bear fruit. The good, the bad and the ugly are all on display at the workplace.

As Red Letter Believers, we can reach our coworkers with a word, with a hand or responding through the Spirit to needs. Are you watching, waiting for opportunity? It’s right next to you — on the job site, in the next cubicle, in the breakroom.

“.. and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” 1 Peter 3:15

Please, share with a friend if you feel moved.
