Have Yourself a Very Simple Summer

Have Yourself a Very Simple Summer
It seems that all of my friends have big summer plans.
Maybe I didn’t plan well enough, but summer around here is going to be pretty simple. Cash reserves are short because of a car repairs and a refrigerator that decided it couldn’t last even one more day.
And the boss already warned me that because of a short supply of workers, that my services would be needed – all summer.  I could probably squeeze in an afternoon here and there or maybe even a day with advance notice he generously offered.
So, I listen to the plans of all the others and think of colorful and entertaining alternatives. I can’t compete. Or can I?
John is headed to Italy for an eight-week cooking school.  I can’t afford that kind of adventure, but  maybe I’ll treat myself to Olive Garden for lunch one day.
A friend’s daughter is going on a big college tour on the East Coast. Instead, I’ll go to the community college open house where they will serve free chili cheese dogs.
Some acquaintances are travelling to New York City to see four successive Broadway performances. I’m kind of thinking about the local little theater where they are performing, Annie Get Your Gun.
A coworker is traveling to Napa Valley to see the lush vineyards. For me, it’s tending to the small garden plot that I’m hoping will yield a few vega

tables that I can pick before they ferment on the vine.

They can have their fancy plans. But for me and my house, it will be  a simple this summer.
What are you doing this summer?
