The Seven Dwarfs of . . . me

The Seven Dwarfs of . . . me November 11, 2011

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a Disney Classic. We all know the story of dazzling princess and her posse of seven short little men with white beards.

Each of the seven had a distinctive personality and a name that matched it.

When I reviewed the roster and compared it to my coworkers, I realized that I’ve worked with each and eveyr one of them. In fact, at times, I’ve been each of them.

  1. Sneezy
  2. Sleepy
  3. Dopey
  4. Doc
  5. Happy
  6. Bashful
  7. Grumpy

Bashful. This little guy comes out when I’ve been given a job I just don’t want to do. I feign knowledge or capability, hoping that someone else will take the project.

  • Doc: This little man emerges when I’m expert and I want everyone to know just how smart I am. I have all the answers to all of the questions. Ask me. Go ahead.
  • Dopey: This is the silliest of the seven personalities of my work life and honestly, the funnest one. When there’s serious or stressful situation, i drop in a crazy comment that gets everyone laughing. Or, gets me a dirty look.
  • Grumpy:  This is me before lunch. Or after I’ve had a big lunch. Or on Monday mornings. Or during the telecon. Or when I have to wait on others delays. Or when the phone rings. Or when the guy   next to me barges in. Or on Fridays when the day drags on. But the rest of the time, I’m great.
  • Happy: This is me when I just realized that I made a mistake on my alotments and I actually have al ittle extra in my paycheck. This is me when I’m done with a big project and everyone is cheering. This is me on Friday afternoon.
  • Sleepy: This is me when things are stacked up. I don’t what it is, but the more things I have to do the less motivated I am. I gaze at the screen, gathering my words, one letter at a time.
  • Sneezy: Sneezy is always interrupting everything. He sneezes at the most inappropriate moments. This is the Christian that feels powerless, is afraid nobody cares about him and is unable to express anger and/or disappointment. He likes to manipulate people by his weakness so he can be noticed or taken care of.

Keep in mind that though each of the dwarfs have some issues, they all play a very important role in the Church today (as did the 7 dwarfs in Snow White). What is particularly important is that they all worked together to help out Snow White. I think we can say the same with the Church today. We all have different characteristics, passions, faults, but we can work together to accomplish what God has prepared for us.
