My dad was a two job guy. When I was growing up, Gene worked a full time job as a highway patrolman and then another half time job doing construction. He was constantly moving.
The thing is, he didn’t do it because he wanted to spend 60+ hours a week busting his tail. He did it as a sacrifice – for his wife and his kids. He did it for me.
He did it so I could have a comfortable home with a warm bed, so I could play the sports I loved so much and so I could go off to college and have opportunities that he never had for himself.
And even though he worked all those hours, he was always there for me. He never missed a game or a concert (at least none that I can remember). He was an active fixture in my life as I grew up.
If I learned anything from my dad about work, I learned about what it means to be obedient and diligent and what it means to sacrifice for your family. He taught me that hard work is worth doing and worth doing well.
Thanks, Dad.
