
3. You are in a company where promotions and raises aren’t based on merit, but on family connections or office politics.
There are plenty of “family companies” that have a very healthy and vibrant staff culture, but if you’re in a place where you have to have a certain last name to be promoted, you’re going to be better off going somewhere else. You have to put your own family’s needs first. If your job overlooks people’s merits and promotes on some kind of “Good Ol’ Boy Network,” instead of playing the office politics, find a healthier place to work.
