Most Bizarre Statement of the Campaign. So Far. November 16, 2011

Michele Bachmann made an absolutely head-scratching statement during the Republican candidates’ debate on foreign policy over the weekend, saying that China, a communist country, doesn’t have a welfare state and their economy is growing so we should do the same thing and get rid of all our social safety net too.

“If you look at China, they don’t have food stamps. They don’t have the modern welfare state, and China’s growing. And so what I would do is look at the programs that LBJ gave us with the Great Society and they’d be gone.”

WTF? Even trying to think about this through the wingnut prism, it makes absolutely no sense. It’s gonna be hard to top that one, but if anyone can do it, Michele Bachmann can. And if she can’t, Herman Cain can. Or Rick Perry.
