Bachmann: ACLU Runs the CIA!

Bachmann: ACLU Runs the CIA! November 21, 2011

Michele Bachmann continues to bring the crazy and the stupid, one-upping her equally whacko competitors during last weekend’s debate on foreign policy issues by claiming that Obama is allowing the ACLU to run the CIA:

At least Bachmann has the pleasure of knowing she beat Herman Cain by telling America that God wanted her to run for president first… though even here Cain one-upped her by not just claiming that God wanted him to run, but that God wanted him to be president. Perhaps Michelle Bachmann felt that, if she wanted to stand out in a crowd already well-known for its outré pronouncements, she had to come up with something really out in left field. So she told the debate audience that President Obama “is allowing the ACLU to run the CIA.”

That will certainly come as news to the ACLU. In the real world, as opposed to Planet Wingnuttia where Bachmann resides, the ACLU has been suing both the Bush and Obama administrations over actions by the CIA, the NSA and the Pentagon in the war on terror, including cases involving the Patriot Act, warrantless wiretaps and data mining and torture. And the Obama administration has done even more damage to the Constitution than the Bush administration did in all of these areas, invoking the broadest possible conception of the State Secrets Privilege in order to have all such cases dismissed.

I think Ms Bachmann plays Illuminati at home and then makes her speeches based on the way the game plays out.

Orbital Mind Control Lasers controlled by farmers, sure why not?

The ACLU controls the CIA, why not?

  • In the real world, as opposed to Planet Wingnuttia where Bachmann resides, the ACLU has been suing both the Bush and Obama administrations over actions by the CIA, the NSA and the Pentagon in the war on terror, including cases involving the Patriot Act, warrantless wiretaps and data mining and torture.

I wish the ACLU ran the CIA. Then I’d feel like I was living in the United States of America, not some culturally, scientifically, and economically backwards police state.

Was this something else the seven foot tall doctor told her?

Amnesty International runs Guantanamo. Ever wonder how they get such detailed reports on wrong doings.

Then she actually does not read the entrails of an owl?

Did anyone notice the video from the Republican debate the other night where Bachman was serving all the men their drinks?

I was appalled that she wasn’t sitting with the guys and being served like all the other candidates.

The depths to which the right wing has fallen these days is simply astounding.

As I’ve noted before, Rep. Bachmann distinguishes herself from Sarah Palin by always planning and asserting something highly provocative when she gets access to big media pulpit. It’s a constantly used approach to gaining political power. In this case she came out with the ACLU/CIA quip in the last debate prior to her Meet the Press interview a couple of weeks ago, where she repeated it in that interview.

Mr. Gregory of course was not prepared to inform his audience that Ms. Bachmann was once again misinforming his audience in spite of the fact she’d used it prior to his interview. (He responded but weakly.) He did correct the record during that interview when Rep. Bachmann falsely claimed the U.S. had only two choices when confronted with al Qaeda, killing them or letting them go.

According to a certain market based webpage

Bachmann has a 1.2% chance of being nominated as the Republican Presidential nominee (Romney is at 68.5%) and a 0.4% chance of winning the election.

At odds of greater than 10000 to 1 against, I think she is free to say anything that crosses what vaguely passes as her mind, nobody’s buying it.

Bye bye Crazy Eyes, it’s been entertaining (sort of).

Democrats: 51.2% [Democrats lead by 4.7%]

    Republicans: 46.5%

    Other: 2.3%

    In a head-to-head contest

    Obama: 61.65% [Leads by 23.301%]

    Romney: 38.35%

  • Sounds like a plausible motive to me, DingoJack. She gets to say cah-razy, shocking things during the run and when she fails, she’s already secured a demographic of crazy people to buy her books, watch her shows, or whatever media she starts putting out. She’ll still be getting attention and media coverage four years later when she’s not even running.

    It’s worked for Palin.

You ever wonder what the people in her district that vote for this woman are like?

They must have settled on an old, indian burial ground and the vortex of Teh Stupid and the Insane has sucked them in.

  • raven

    It is the endless puzzle.

Can a fundie xian wingnut say something so stupid, even they think it is dumb.

    Hasn’t happened yet.

  • dingojack

Selfish motives! How stupid of me not to see it earlier!

Still, nice to know that her market is a quietly shrinking backwater, in the lea of a much greater sea.

I’d have mixed feelings about the ACLU running the CIA.

What I do require is that the CIA respect not just American civil liberties, but the civil liberties of all mankind.

I’m really starting to wonder if the idea of having almost weekly republican debates. Each one has been a bigger clown show than the one before it. It’s almost like the GOP wants the world to see how they’ve been taken over by the lunatic fringe.

Hopefully the emphasis is “worked” for Sarah Palin rather than “worked and still working” for Ms. Palin. I do not miss her.

While I agree with your general point that

Bye bye Crazy Eyes, it’s been entertaining (sort of)

    I don’t think this –

At odds of greater than 10000 to 1 against

    – is right. Did you just multiply her 1.2% chance of winning the nomination with her 0.4% chance of winning the election? Obviously she would have to do both, but surely if she does win the nomination then that 0.4% goes up to something like 33% (in fact that must be where the 0.4% figure comes from: 1.2% x 33%).

Not that it matters (I hope)…

Actually if you told me that the CIA was running the ACLU I probably would believe that.

I’m really starting to wonder if the idea of having almost weekly republican debates. Each one has been a bigger clown show than the one before it. It’s almost like the GOP wants the world to see how they’ve been taken over by the lunatic fringe.

At least they’re finally being honest?

I mean, these so-called ideas are the genuine beliefs of the crowd Nixon’s Southern Strategy was aimed. If you cater to a vile, stupid and dishonest demographic, is anyone surprised when the politicians chosen to represent them becoming increasingly like their demographic to be vile, stupid and dishonest politicians?

The GOP has run on hate and lies decades now–and done so successfully, because too few people understood just how deeply the stupid, vile and dishonest runs in this nation.

There was significant upheaval in the 60s that left a lot of Americans bewildered, but, rather than trying to make sense of what all those angry, protesting people were talking about, fat-ass America chose to resort to their preconceived notions. Thinking is hard!

A niche had formed, and there was the GOP to fill the void: Make it easy, sum it up into pithy sound bites that don’t require much thinking, never mind if they’re real. That doesn’t matter. You don’t need to understand or even pretend to grasp science or economics or history or where another person is coming from. Keep pounding away that compassion is for bleeding heart-liberals, and eventually you have idiots like Perry touting a growth of minimum wage jobs as something the hoi polloi should be grateful for. Keep pounding away that expertise in reality is for pointy-headed intellectuals–unless you want to arm the military and cops to the teeth, and eventually you get the stupidity of Sarah Palin saying that she’s an expert in international diplomacy because she can see Russia from her house. And so on. As long as it keeps appealing to the id of idiots, do it.

reading owl entrails? What do you think she is, some sort of pagan?

    Illuminati makes far more sense.
