Randall Terry Got Himself a Delegate

Randall Terry Got Himself a Delegate March 10, 2012

Did you know that Randall Terry is running for president? As a Democrat? No one else much cares, of course, but he actually managed to win a delegate — one delegate — in Oklahoma on Super Tuesday. And now he says he’s going to be the one who prevents Obama from winning in November. Seriously.

“My message was simple: Obama promotes the murder of babies by abortion, and is attacking the Church and religious liberty. Knowing this, a Christian cannot vote for him in good conscience.

“Obama’s promotion of the murder of unborn babies could cost him the White House in 2012. I will run in at least 6 swing states, and be a voice for the babies who are dying under Obama’s policies. If these numbers hold true in those states, the plight of the babies will cause Obama to lose the White House in 2012. How’s that for the most critical ‘social issue’ of our times being the driving force of an election? Obama’s promotion of murder is his Achilles heal.”

That kind of self-delusion is almost touching. Or it would be, if Terry was not so obviously nothing more than a carnival barker on the wingnut midway.

Oh…please let a live Randall Terrorist person call me….please, please…

  • bahrfeldt

Every president since and including Nixon has presided over a nation with legal abortion. But it’s all the black guy’s fault, right?

  • Randomfactor

So, the deadbeat dad is going to “save” the nation?

  • Terry will stop Obama winning in November. He’ll buy a scratch and win ticket before Obama can and win 10 bucks.

  • iknklast

Since when is Oklahoma a swing state? They have very few electoral votes and are solidly conservative.

The thing that bothers me is that he received a delegate by getting 44% of the vote – from the DEMOCRATS. In a state without open primaries.

  • Homo Straminus

I’d love to see a democrat run against Obama and call out his bullshittery, but here I gotta say BWAHAhahahahahaha.

  • vhutchison

Turn out by Oklahoma Democrats was low, since many assumed that there was no need to vote since Obama would win! Efforts to inform voters of the interloper just did not get traction and there was very little press coverage. I guess I am not surprised in this reddest of states – and it appears to be getting worse, but I am too old and established with family to move to a more politically enlightened area.

However, we have been able to stop one creationist academic freedom bill (SB 1742 now dead) and are working hard against Sally Kern’s HB 1551 (another academic freedom act) that passed the committee by 9-7 vote. Such bills have been stopped here for last 12 years, but this year has been tough!

Yes, it is truly sad but I must admit that my home state is batsh*t crazy. I have often said that Oklahomans will vote for the village idiot as long as he is a Republican. Just look at Inhofe.

Of course, in this case Terry isn’t a Republican, but he is about as close to one as you can get and call oneself a Democrat.

  • Olav

    Ed quotes:

Obama promotes the murder of babies by abortion,

Mr. Terry would be more right if he said Obama promotes the murder of babies (and other people) by remote controlled airplanes.

If I were American I would not know whom to vote for, and I would probably abstain from voting altogether.

  • Pierce R. Butler

RAT (did that middle initial make him what he is, or did his parents receive supernatural guidance?) has emitted a series of emails bragging about his “Victory over Obama” in Oklahoma.

My favorite includes his Luskinesque squeaks of outrage that those who know him best want him to go away:

    Christian Coverage: Dishonorable

The “secular” outlets mentioned above showed far more courage and integrity that most “Christian” and “Pro-life” media in America. Most Christian “news outlets” gave this campaign for the babies exactly zero coverage. Zip. Nada. None.

Again, the above secular outlets – that are usually despised by whining Christians who say “they never give us good coverage…” – have shown far more integrity that the “news arms” of 99% of Christian media outlets. …

In this epic struggle to date, the secular press gets an A- for their coverage of my campaign, and their accuracy in communicating that this campaign is for the babies, and to cause Obama’s defeat in November.

The Christian press and media outlets get a D- at best.

Isn’t it just lovely how so many presidential hopefuls run on a platform of anti-abortion…and almost nothing else? Good or horrible economy? Education reform? Infrastructure? Jobs creation? Everything seems to take a distant backseat to anti-abortion (even gay marriage doesn’t seem to be at the forefront these days; good, I’d like to get married one day here in Florida). In the eyes of these people, I guess America will become great once more and all our problems will be fixed once abortion is made illegal. If that happened, what platform would be left to run on in the next election?

  • sunsangnim

I had been sort of hoping that Obama would face a primary challenge from an actual progressive. But now he’s getting challenged by an anti-abortion wingnut? Why doesn’t this guy just join the GOP?

  • laurentweppe

Ahem: no: he got 18% of the vote, that is, 20.000 votes in a state which has one million registered democrats. Color me unimpressed by Terry’s performance

Oh dear. You didn’t really think this would happen, did you? When American thinks that an authoritarian corporatist shill like Obama is a socialist, what chances do you think a real liberal would have?

Sounds like a Lolcats photo caption:

I haz delegate. Now I can be prezdent! Ceiling Cat sez so.

  • Greetings Ed. Randall Terry here.

I marvel that you (and most of your commentators) are not politically sophisticated enough to do simple political math. You clearly have the gift of sarcasm, but without good content and insight along with your wit, you will remain a dim bulb in the cyber ghetto.

But enough of legitimizing you by insulting you; let’s go to the political math lesson that has eluded you.

In a closed primary – meaning that only registered Democrats (no Republicans, no Independents) could vote – I took 18% of the statewide vote, and outright beat Obama in 14 counties (by over 10% in some cases.)

My message was simple: “Abortion is murder…Obama promotes murder…Obama is a war with religious liberty…send a message that Obama and the nation will hear: use your vote to be a voice for the babies…vote for Randall Terry.”

18% of Democrats in Oklahoma love life and liberty enough to throw a sitting President under the bus.

Now, here is another critical detail (darn that math!) for the general election in November; there are a large number of Catholics and Evangelicals that are registered Democrats and Independents in most states in the Union. (In OK, there are more registered Democrats than Republicans, and most of those Democrats are Christians.)

I will be on the ballot in several swing states in November as an Independent. My message will be the same. So, let’s say that instead of 18% of the Democrat and Independent votes going to me, only 6% do. That 6% will be enough for Obama to lose the swing states, and thereby lose the White House.

It will be a glorious victory for the babies and for justice in this election year if Obama’s promotion of child killing, and his attack on the Church cost him the election. For those who are interested, you can see the commercials we ran by the score in Oklahoma, which helped me carry the entire panhandle. http://www.TerryForPresident.com is my web site. Cheers Ed, Randall Terry

    • Enjoy your delusions, you Christo-fascist dickhead.

  • Chiroptera

randallterry, #17: I marvel that you (and most of your commentators) are not politically sophisticated enough to do simple political math.

Speaking of “political math,” I’m betting the “fetuses are babies” crazy talk does a lot less well in states that aren’t as crazy as Oklahoma.

  • dingojack

And hasn’t that simple maths worked out sooo well for Mr Frothy?

    Dingo

  • Michael Heath

    Well Ed,

Mr. Terry has just provided you with your first post-election blog post. We’ll then get to review how prescient he was with his math. Heh.

  • dingojack

According to Intrade, the chances of someone other than Barak Obama being elected as a Democratic President:

    (1 – 0.968) * 0.616 = 0.019712, or odds of about 558 to 11.

I’m sure Mr. Randell is ready to put his money where his mouth is, for the sake of the little children (all proceeds to a pre-agreed charity).

Any one wanna take Mr. Randell’s money, for a good cause?

    🙂 Dingo

My message was simple: “Abortion is murder…Obama promotes murder…Obama is a war with religious liberty

So, your message was simply a pack of lies, because abortion is not murder and Obama is not at war with religious liberty. That you found so many fools and bigots willing to listen to your lies is indeed disturbing, but I confidently predict that you will have zero effect on the Presidential election: anyone who wants to get Obama out will vote Republican.

  • slc1

    Re Randall Terry @ #17

Abortions today, abortions tomorrow, abortions to the far horizon, abortions forever.

  • markw

Pro-“life” insanity aside, does he really think that “Achilles’ heel” should be spelled “Achilles heal”?

    Bwahahahahahahaha!

  • John Hinkle

    dingojack says:

According to Intrade, the chances of someone other than Barak Obama being elected as a Democratic President:

I think what RT means is that he’ll pull enough votes away from Obama in swing states so that a republican wins.

  • 18% of Democrats in Oklahoma…

And that’s how many actual people voting in that primary?

Oh, and extremist dickheads (including LaRouchies and the occasional neo-Nazi) have got themselves on Democratic ballots before. They never accomplished diddly after their initial attention-grabbing spash.

But hey, go ahead and run as an independent. The only votes you’ll get will be from teatards and bigots who would never vote Democratic nowhere nohow anyway — which is why you probably won’t run after all.

Speaking of “life,” little man, do you have anything to say about how all of your hateful little lies about Terri Schiavo were proven dead wrong?

  • Makoto

@17 randalterry – Oddly, I know several people in Oklahoma who are registered Dem just so they can vote *against* candidates in primaries.. so they voted for you against Obama. Congratulations. They don’t even know you, or care about your ideas, they are simply Republicans following Rush’s idea to register with the opposing party so they can mess with its elections. And I don’t even know that many people in OK. I’m sure there are more who helped get you that kind of turnout.

  • And the votes are in. The winner is… Richard Nixon’s head, by one vote.

  • Well, shit, guys; you just know that Randy ain’t comin’ back. He gets in his talking points and leaves–a cowardly piece of shit is what he would be AFTER lots of improvement.
