Beck: God Must Destroy Us

Beck: God Must Destroy Us May 5, 2013

You’re gonna LOVE this video of Glenn Beck getting all weepy eyed — again — and saying that God “has got to destroy us; we are becoming an affront to him in every step of the way. We are denying his existence. We are denying his power. We are slapping him in the face.” It’s like wingnut performance art.

I wonder if He could be persuaded to start with Glenn? Imprecatory prayer, anyone? 🙂

  • DaveL

    It’s like wingnut performance art?

Beck is supposed to be a Mormon. This, however, is standard fundamentalist, not Mormon, rhetoric. Maybe someone should report him to his bishop.

  • Randomfactor

Well, Beck my man, Dubya taught us what to do: destroy god before he can destroy us.

    Preemptive atheism.

  • raven

    Which god?

    There are thousands at least.

There are many xian and xianoid gods as well.

The Mormon god is very different from the xian god(s). For one thing, he isn’t a trinity. The Mormon god is married to a fleet of goddess wives who are so important, no one even knows their names. They all live on planet Kolob. And the Mormon god isn’t very powerful. He is one of countless gods, all with their own planets of ants to play with.

I doubt the Mormon god would dare destroy the earth and us. If he does, he is out of a job forever unless he wants to start over.

PS And whose fault is it if we are flawed, imperfect creatures who should be erased? The claim is we were created by god in his image. Seems like Beck’s god isn’t taking responsibility for his own actions here.

We are denying his existence. We are denying his power. We are slapping him in the face.”

That translates from fundiespeak to English as, send me more money!!!

There are only about 6 or 7 million Mormons in the USA. The vast majority of the US population doesn’t believe in Glenn Beck’s gods

Half of all US xians and 3/4’s of all ministers and priests don’t even consider the Mormons to be xians.

  • dingojack

Well – we better be slapping god’s ass. No one can look on god’s face and live, remember*!

    * see Exodus 33:20-23 (remembering also Exodus 33:11)

Say “God damn America” and you are a radical enemy of the nation.

Say “God must destroy America” and you are a right thinking patriot.

  • D. C. Sessions

Must? SRSLY? And if “God” doesn’t do as commanded, what’s Beck going to do about it?

I mean, the question has to be asked given the long record of disobedience that this “God” dude has established.

This religious wish to destroy the fallen world finds expression in other ways. For instance, Christian Zionism.

  • Artor

Does Beck own stock in Vick’s Vapor Rub? He must go through that shit by the 5-gallon bucket considering the amount of crocodile tears he sheds.

  • atheist

Oh, and for extra wackiness, he’s angry the US supports Saudi Arabia. And he’s afraid of the Muslim Brotherhood for some reason. His mind must be a sewer of paranoia, ignorance and hatred.

  • raven

His mind must be a sewer of paranoia, ignorance and hatred.

It might just be greed. We have no way of knowing whether he believes any of what he says or cares one bit.

Beck’s net worth is estimated at around $100 million. He is well paid for his gibberish.

There’s plenty of evidence that suggests he believes it. But at the same time, you’re absolutely right that greed must play a part. It is entirely possible for a person to be crazy, greedy, and dishonest, all at the same time.

“Quem deus vult perdere, dementat prius” *

For Mr Bek it’s too late.

    * Whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad.

  • Larry

No, Glenn, we’re gonna be just fine.

  • Francisco Bacopa

People often attribute their own desires to God. So why does Glen Beck want to destroy America?

  • Johnny Au Gratin

On Saturday mornings when I volunteer as a clinic escort I hear a similar spiel from a regular protester. He starts off with a pleading tone that quickly morphs to a fevered climax of certain retribution. He claims that his omnipotent God has no choice but to send the clients to an eternal punishment in hell.

Wow, this anti-choice idea goes all the way to the top!

I find it incoherent to claim there is an all knowing and all powerful being that must nevertheless be constrained to behave in the way that many of its limited, biased, and fallible creations wish it to behave. Couple that with common claims that “God’s ways are not man’s ways” and “No one can know the mind of God” and the incoherence is off the scale.

This desire for a God who has the power to enforce their prejudices, but is not powerful enough to defy them highlights the self serving nature of much religious dogma.

God is a pervert who likes to watch people have sex. He would probably like it if we slapped his ass. Maybe even give us a please sir may I have some more.

  • busterggi

And yet if you asked Beck and other Judeo-Christo-Islamo-Mormons if they belonged to a death cult they’d deny it.

  • dan4

    @20: “…Beck and other Judeo-Christo-Islamo-Mormons….”

Beck is a Jew, a Christian, and Muslim, as well as a Mormon? Good to know.

  • atheist

Hey man who you callin’ an Islamo Moron?!

  • birgerjohansson

Most gods are happy to be left alone. For instance; Odin lives up by Reykjavik, Iceland, and spends a lot of time fishing in the streams. I am not certain about Thor, maybe the crowds of drunken revellers after a good soccer game function as Thor worship. Venus owns a big share of Penthouse. And Death is busier than ever since the middle ages, despite the absence of Death images on the walls of contemporary churches.

  • Teh Bekster is to reasoned discourse what Mr. Ponzi was to fiscal prudence.

  • Every time I see one of these Beck video posts, I just skip it and assume that it is more ridiculous than the worst thing I can imagine. I just watched the video, and god damn, he could not be more of a bumbling buffoon if he tried.
